Minoru Matsumoto

松本稔

Story Role

Matsumoto becomes prominent during the second half of Shohoku's national-tournament game against Sannoh. His entrance reinforces the champions' depth as they continue rotating high-level players against Shohoku.

His matchup with Mitsui becomes one of the game's important secondary battles. Matsumoto appears to have the physical advantage as Mitsui approaches exhaustion, yet the Shohoku shooter becomes increasingly dangerous precisely when he seems least capable of continuing.

Mitsui's three-point barrage repeatedly punishes Sannoh and becomes central to Shohoku's comeback. Matsumoto is left confronting a shooter whose determination and rhythm allow him to score through extreme fatigue.
