Medaka Kurokami

Medaka is confident, optimistic and intensely committed to helping others. She assumes that every person has redeeming qualities and approaches hostility as a problem to understand rather than proof that someone is irredeemable.

Her confidence can become overwhelming. Medaka often assumes responsibility without asking whether anyone else wants her intervention, and her extraordinary competence makes it difficult for her to understand the frustration of people who cannot simply master a problem through effort.

Behind that confidence is a childhood struggle to understand why she exists. Zenkichi's early suggestion that her abilities could make other people happy gives Medaka a purpose that eventually becomes her defining philosophy.

Medaka possesses extraordinary physical ability, intelligence, perception and learning capacity. Her basic attributes already exceed those of most students before her formal Abnormality is considered.

The End allows Medaka to understand another person's technique or Abnormality, reproduce it and use it at approximately 120 percent of the original user's effectiveness. This makes encounters with skilled opponents opportunities for her own arsenal to expand.

Her War God modes alter how she channels her abilities and emotions in combat. She can also employ techniques copied from numerous opponents and allies, making her increasingly versatile as the series progresses.

Medaka begins her presidency by accepting requests through the suggestion box that gives the series its name. Early problems involve clubs, school rules and interpersonal disputes, but her intervention gradually exposes the extraordinary students and experiments hidden within Hakoniwa Academy.

The Flask Plan places Medaka at the center of an attempt to create a perfect human. Her own extraordinary nature makes her both a potential model for the project and one of its strongest opponents.

Kumagawa's arrival challenges her in a different way. His Minus mentality resists the straightforward reform that works on many previous opponents, forcing Medaka to confront someone who sees failure itself as an identity.

Later conflicts challenge Medaka's reliance on being universally capable and universally needed. Zenkichi's decision to oppose her in the Student Council election forces her to confront the difference between helping people and defining her entire existence through their dependence on her.

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi has known Medaka since they were two years old and gives her the childhood idea that helping others can provide meaning to her abilities. Their bond eventually becomes openly romantic, and the two agree as adults to marry after one final contest.

Kouki Akune once possesses a violent personality that Medaka helps redirect. He subsequently becomes her Student Council secretary and a devoted supporter.

Mogana Kikaijima joins Medaka's council as treasurer after Medaka helps her reconsider the relationship between money and friendship.

Misogi Kumagawa is one of the most difficult people Medaka attempts to reform. His eventual decision to join her council marks a change without completely erasing the negativity that defines him.

Hansode Shiranui initially remains closer to Zenkichi than to Medaka, but her connection to Medaka becomes increasingly important as the story reveals more about the Shiranui family.

Najimi Ajimu views Medaka as an extraordinary test case whose repeated success challenges Ajimu's understanding of their world.
