Mogana Kikaijima

Mogana is energetic, practical and initially obsessed with money. Growing up without financial security convinces her that money can prevent abandonment and suffering, so she approaches swimming partly as a way of earning prizes rather than simply enjoying competition.

She is nevertheless intensely loyal. Yakushima and Tanegashima remain beside her during difficult circumstances, and their friendship matters more to her than the money around which the Swimming Club initially organizes itself.

Mogana becomes warmer after joining the Student Council. She retains her love of money and frequently calculates costs, but she grows increasingly comfortable forming relationships that have nothing to do with financial value.

Mogana is an elite competitive swimmer with extraordinary lung capacity, physical conditioning and control in water. Her athleticism places her among Hakoniwa Academy's Specials.

Her signature ability is her Loud Voice. By compressing and releasing air from her lungs, Mogana can produce an extraordinarily powerful vocal blast. At close range, the pressure generated by her voice can function as an offensive weapon.

She also possesses strong accounting skills appropriate to her role as treasurer and holds advanced bookkeeping qualifications.

Mogana enters when the Student Council investigates the Swimming Club and its aggressive pursuit of prize money. Medaka initially sees the club's attitude as unhealthy, but learning about Mogana's childhood poverty changes the context of her behavior.

After the conflict is resolved, Medaka recruits Mogana as Student Council treasurer. She joins Zenkichi and Akune as part of the council's core group and becomes involved in the increasingly dangerous confrontations surrounding the Flask Plan.

Mogana's presence also broadens the council beyond Medaka's original circle. Unlike Medaka and Zenkichi, she enters without a long personal history with either of them and chooses to remain because the council becomes another community she values.

Medaka Kurokami initially challenges Mogana's fixation on money and subsequently recruits her as treasurer. Mogana grows genuinely loyal to Medaka Kurokami and the council.

Kouki Akune serves alongside Mogana on the Student Council and becomes one of her regular companions.

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi is another fellow council member whom Mogana comes to trust.

Yakushima and Tanegashima are Mogana's closest friends from the Swimming Club. Their support during her impoverished childhood helps her understand that relationships can have value independent of money.
