Hansode Shiranui

Shiranui is cheerful, gluttonous and brutally tactless. She enjoys teasing Zenkichi and rarely seems concerned about whether her comments offend anyone. Her appetite is enormous despite her small body, and she is frequently eating even during serious conversations.

Behind the playful exterior, Shiranui is exceptionally perceptive and secretive. She acquires information about the academy's hidden organizations with suspicious ease and often knows the details of a developing crisis before the Student Council does.

Her friendship with Zenkichi is one of the few relationships she treats with consistent personal importance. She may mock him relentlessly, but she also pays close attention to his choices and emotional state.

Shiranui possesses physical abilities far beyond what her small appearance suggests. Her speed, agility and strength allow her to survive situations that would be dangerous for ordinary students.

Her most important ability is Real Eater, which allows her to alter another person's skill by consuming and transforming its nature. Rather than merely copying or erasing an ability, she can remake it into something different.

She is also exceptionally skilled at concealment, observation and gathering information, talents connected to the unusual role of the Shiranui family within Hakoniwa Academy's hidden structures.

Shiranui begins as Zenkichi's eccentric friend and an informed observer of Medaka's Student Council. She frequently provides information but resists becoming a straightforward member of the group.

Her unusual knowledge becomes increasingly significant as the story expands beyond ordinary school requests. Connections between the Shiranui family, the Flask Plan and Hakoniwa Academy gradually make it clear that she occupies a more complicated position than her early comic appearances suggest.

Shiranui is revealed to have served as Medaka's double, a role tied to the Shiranui family's practice of producing substitutes for exceptional people. After completing that purpose, she is selected as the next vessel connected to Iihiko Shishime and leaves her friends behind.

The attempt to rescue her drives the Unknown Shiranui arc. Although she initially insists that her relationship with Zenkichi and the others was merely part of her assigned role, their determination to retrieve her exposes how genuine those relationships have become.

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi is Shiranui's best friend. She constantly mocks Zenkichi Hitoyoshi, but their familiarity and trust make him one of the people most capable of recognizing when her behavior is not genuine.

Medaka Kurokami initially has a more distant relationship with Shiranui than Zenkichi does. Shiranui is eventually revealed to have functioned as Medaka's designated double, tying their lives together through the Shiranui family's responsibilities.

Hakama Shiranui is Shiranui's grandfather and the chairman of Hakoniwa Academy.

Hanten Shiranui belongs to the same broader Shiranui lineage and represents the extraordinary history behind the family's role as doubles.

Iihiko Shishime is bound to the Shiranui family's ancient responsibilities. Hansode is selected to become his next vessel, placing her at the center of the conflict surrounding his return.

Misogi Kumagawa shares Shiranui's tendency to hide disturbing intentions behind playful conversation, allowing the two to interact with an unusual degree of mutual understanding.
