Maguro Kurokami

Maguro is cheerful, eccentric and shamelessly obsessed with his younger sisters. His sister complex is so extreme that both Kujira and Medaka regularly respond to his affection with annoyance or violence.

Behind that behavior, he is highly perceptive and strategically serious. Maguro can assess a fighter's strengths and weaknesses almost immediately and communicate a winning strategy while disguising the advice as casual conversation or jokes.

He also cares about the people important to his sisters. Maguro recognizes the stabilizing influence Zenkichi Hitoyoshi has on Medaka and encourages him to remain at her side, although he later recognizes that placing such a burden on a younger student is unfair.

Analysis allows Maguro to automatically and intuitively understand whatever he examines. Applied to Abnormalities, it lets him determine how an ability works, identify its strengths and weaknesses and devise methods for bringing out its user's potential.

The skill makes Maguro an exceptional analyst, trainer, tactician and manager rather than a conventional frontline fighter. He can infer physical statistics from minimal contact and quickly formulate counters to unfamiliar opponents.

His analytical talent was especially valuable to the Flask Plan. Rather than merely studying Abnormals academically, Maguro could understand how their individual abilities should be developed and used.

Maguro first becomes important when the Student Council needs information about Class 13 and the Flask Plan. His past involvement makes him one of the few people capable of explaining the project from firsthand experience.

His own history with the Flask Plan is closely tied to his family. Maguro originally develops Analysis while searching for his missing sister Kujira and joins the Flask Plan partly to continue that search. He eventually becomes fascinated by Oudo's Abnormality and loses sight of his original objective for a time.

After leaving the project, Maguro manages Ghost Babel and becomes a recurring adviser to the Student Council. His Analysis repeatedly provides tactical solutions when raw strength alone cannot solve a problem.

Medaka Kurokami is Maguro's younger half-sister and one of the two people he loves obsessively. Despite Medaka Kurokami's irritation with his behavior, Maguro understands her abilities exceptionally well and repeatedly assists her.

Kujira Kurokami is Maguro's younger half-sister. Maguro's determination to find Kujira after she disappears becomes one of the major reasons he develops his Analysis and becomes involved with the Flask Plan.

Kajiki Kurokami is Maguro's father.

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi is someone Maguro trusts to remain beside Medaka. Maguro frequently teases Zenkichi Hitoyoshi, but also trains and advises him.

Oudo Miyakonojou is Maguro's former Flask Plan partner. Maguro becomes so fascinated by Oudo's abilities that his interest temporarily distracts him from his original reason for joining the project.

Kei Munakata receives weapons training from Maguro during their Flask Plan years.

Itami Koga is an opponent whose remodeled body Maguro analyzes in order to help Akune formulate a counter.
