Laban

Laban is pragmatic, perceptive and unusually sympathetic toward common people for a member of Midland's ruling class. He evaluates Griffith's abilities without allowing aristocratic prejudice to obscure his judgment.

He is nevertheless cautious. Even while admiring Griffith's achievements, Laban notices how extraordinary his ascent has become and considers the political consequences of such rapid advancement.

His sense of public responsibility becomes particularly evident during Midland's later disasters. Laban personally helps civilians rather than remaining safely behind his soldiers and treats protecting refugees as part of his duty as a commander.

Laban is an experienced military officer rather than a superhuman frontline fighter. His strengths are command, organization and strategic judgment.

As commander of the Arklow Knights, he can lead conventional troops through hostile territory and coordinate military operations. He also demonstrates considerable adaptability when warfare begins incorporating Apostles, astral creatures and other phenomena far beyond ordinary military experience.

Laban has no supernatural powers.

During the Hundred-Year War, Laban participates in Midland's strategic discussions surrounding Doldrey. Although surprised when the Band of the Hawk receives the seemingly impossible assignment of capturing the fortress, he believes Griffith may succeed.

After the Eclipse and Midland's collapse, Laban helps plague-stricken civilians and later joins efforts to resist the Kushan occupation. He infiltrates Wyndham with the Arklow Knights and cooperates with Foss's resistance.

Laban subsequently joins Griffith's new military order and helps protect refugees during the battle against Ganishka. After Falconia appears, he becomes one of the officials and commanders responsible for protecting its population and managing its expanding military needs.

Griffith earns Laban's respect through military ability long before most nobles accept him. Laban later serves within the political and military order created around Griffith in Falconia.

Owen is Laban's friend and fellow Midland noble. The two frequently discuss military and political developments and later reunite during the struggle against the Kushan occupation.

Foss works with Laban during the resistance against Kushan-controlled Wyndham.

Mule Wolflame later fights alongside Laban, who offers the younger knight practical advice about battlefield conduct.

Rickert meets Laban while traveling toward Falconia. Laban recognizes his connection to the original Band of the Hawk and helps him gain access to the city.
