Komomi Mera

Mera is reserved and considerably less expressive than Iizuka. Her calm manner changes little even when discussing subjects she takes very seriously.

Cooking is the major exception. Mera is intensely passionate about food and believes that anyone who genuinely understands the relationship between living, eating and killing should be capable of preparing excellent cuisine.

She is not interested in treating food as a superficial display of luxury. Ingredients matter, but her philosophy emphasizes understanding what eating actually represents rather than merely selecting the most expensive components available.

Mera is an exceptional chef, described as a chef among chefs. Her skill encompasses ingredient selection, preparation and the judgment needed to produce high-level cuisine under unusual conditions.

She trained in Italy while still in junior high school, giving her experience beyond the ordinary curriculum of Hakoniwa Academy.

Mera also carries an oversized santoku knife. Her principal established specialty remains cooking rather than supernatural combat, and she is classified as a Special rather than an Abnormal.

Mera and Iizuka administer the fifth succession trial, "Super Cooking Practice." The candidates receive access to an enormous selection of premium ingredients and must prepare something Mera considers delicious.

The apparent abundance of expensive food is itself part of the test. Mera's philosophy challenges participants to understand cooking rather than assuming luxury automatically produces a superior meal.

She later continues working in Hakoniwa's cafeteria and interacts with Medaka after the succession trials. During Medaka's 100 Flowers Run, Mera joins the other committee chairmen and promises that she will not forget her. Ten years later, Mera and Iizuka work together at the Italian restaurant Mitsuboshi.

Kuroudo Iizuka is Mera's fellow Diet Education Committee chairman and regular partner. Kuroudo Iizuka is more openly emotional, while Mera generally provides the calmer half of their partnership.

Medaka Kurokami encounters Mera through the succession trials and later eats food she prepares at Hakoniwa Academy.

Uzume Megusuno, Aoki Aka, Tsue Kamimutsuro and Yabumi Juunichou are fellow committee chairwomen involved in the succession process.
