Kuroudo Iizuka

Iizuka is expressive, hot-tempered and proud of his abilities. Where Mera often remains composed, Iizuka reacts openly when irritated and is easier to provoke.

His committee responsibilities reveal a more disciplined side. He possesses extensive knowledge relating to food and works effectively with a partner whose personality differs sharply from his own.

Iizuka is also competitive and takes the succession trials seriously, using the unusual conditions of his challenge to test candidates rather than simply offering them a conventional contest.

Iizuka possesses extraordinary respiratory control. His lung capacity allows him to remain active while holding his breath for periods that would be impossible for an ordinary person.

This ability becomes particularly useful in environments where breathing itself is restricted or dangerous. His physical conditioning lets him continue functioning under those conditions while opponents rapidly lose effectiveness.

As a Diet Education Committee chairman, Iizuka also possesses substantial knowledge about food and nutrition, complementing Mera's expertise.

Iizuka becomes prominent during the succession trials organized around Hakoniwa Academy's committee chairmen. Together with Mera, he creates a food-related challenge whose conditions require more than simple physical strength.

His role places him among the Specials who demonstrate that extraordinary talent at Hakoniwa is not limited to Class 13 Abnormals. Specialized training can produce abilities that appear superhuman without belonging to the same category as Medaka's innate gifts.

Iizuka later participates with the other committee chairmen in Medaka's 100 Flowers Run before her departure from the academy.

Konomi Mera is Iizuka's fellow Diet Education Committee chairwoman and regular partner. Their contrasting personalities complement one another, with Konomi Mera generally remaining calmer than Iizuka.

Medaka Kurokami encounters Iizuka through the committee system and the succession trials.

Aoki Aka, Tsue Kamimutsuro and Uzume Megusuno are fellow committee leaders participating in the same succession process.
