Kiyonaga Matsumoto

Matsumoto is stern, authoritative, and highly professional. His appearance can be intimidating, but he is capable of considerable concern for both his family and the officers under his command.

He expects detectives to perform their duties seriously and maintains the demeanor of a senior commander rather than involving himself unnecessarily in every detail of an investigation.

His relationship with Sayuri reveals a gentler side. Despite their occasional disagreements, he is protective of his daughter and deeply invested in her well-being.

Matsumoto is an experienced police commander with decades of investigative and supervisory experience. He is capable of directing major homicide investigations and coordinating officers within the Metropolitan Police Department.

The scar over his left eye comes from an encounter with a serial killer years earlier, demonstrating that his career has included dangerous field investigations rather than purely administrative work.

His seniority gives him command authority over Megure and numerous First Division detectives.

Matsumoto first appears in connection with Sayuri's wedding, where Conan becomes involved in a poisoning case. He subsequently recurs as one of the senior Metropolitan Police officials overseeing Megure's division.

A later case explores the origin of his facial scar and an unsolved serial murder investigation from his past.

In The Raven Chaser, Irish abducts Matsumoto and assumes his identity in order to infiltrate a joint police task force. The real Matsumoto is eventually found alive, exposing how the Black Organization gained access to the investigation.

Matsumoto's command position is later occupied by Hyoue Kuroda.

Sayuri Matsumoto is Matsumoto's daughter. Matsumoto is protective of Sayuri Matsumoto despite his stern demeanor.

Juzo Megure is one of Matsumoto's principal subordinates in the Metropolitan Police Department.

Wataru Takagi, Miwako Satou, and Ninzaburo Shiratori serve within the investigative organization Matsumoto supervises.

Irish abducts Matsumoto and impersonates him during the Black Organization's operation in The Raven Chaser.

Hyoue Kuroda later occupies Matsumoto's former senior position within the First Investigation Division.
