Personality
Personality
Senji is combative, proud and straightforward. He loves testing himself against powerful opponents and initially treats Ganta as another interesting fight rather than someone who needs protecting. Losing earns his respect rather than resentment.
Outside battle, he can be unexpectedly awkward. He is easily embarrassed by revealing clothing and reacts strongly to sexual situations despite otherwise presenting himself as fearless and hardened.
His experience as a police officer leaves him with a strong hatred of cowardice and injustice. Senji does not need elaborate justification to help someone once he believes the cause is right, and he becomes one of Ganta's most dependable allies.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Crow Claw turns Senji's blood into long blades extending from his forearms. The weapons combine cutting power with his considerable physical strength and close-quarters fighting experience.
Senji can alter the size and reach of the blades and cross them for defensive use. His control is sufficiently refined that he can fight other Deadmen without relying solely on brute force.
He later develops Invisible Black, an extremely fast slash whose speed makes the attack difficult to perceive, and continues strengthening Crow Claw through battles against increasingly dangerous opponents.
Story Role
Story Role
Senji encounters Ganta, Shiro and Yō Takami in G Ward and becomes Ganta's first Carnival Corpse opponent. His superior experience initially dominates the match, but Ganta improvises a way to defeat him.
As the loser, Senji is subjected to the penalty game and has his right eye removed. Rather than blame Ganta, he returns wearing an eyepatch and helps the younger Deadman understand how to fight with a Branch of Sin.
Senji later joins operations against the prison's enemies and continues acting as Ganta's rival. During the return to Deadman Wonderland, he intervenes against Hagire and Chan and En, losing part of his right arm in the confrontation.
