Kamome Tsurubami

Kamome thinks of himself as a dark-hero type and believes he possesses qualities suited to being a protagonist. He can talk at great length about subjects that interest him, even when nobody else shares his enthusiasm.

That apparent confidence coexists with considerable shyness. Kamome says he cannot speak properly while people look at him, so he often averts his gaze during conversations. Ajimu observes that he functions best when speaking with only one person at a time.

He has an aloof, eccentric sense of humor and several habits resembling his father's. His arguments with Zenkichi over manga demonstrate both his tendency to overexplain himself and how quickly his carefully constructed cool demeanor can collapse when he is embarrassed.

The Kamome System combines multiple categories of ability rather than fitting neatly into one established classification. Medaka identifies his techniques as Styles before Kamome's complete set of abilities is explained.

Spinning Angler is Kamome's Abnormality and uses the spinning top he carries as part of his fighting system. Octopus is his Minus, while Provocations User is a Style built around provoking and manipulating responses through language.

This combination makes Kamome unusually versatile. His combat approach mixes physical weapon use with the conceptual mechanics of Abnormalities, Minuses and Styles rather than depending on a single specialty.

Ajimu discovers Kamome while searching for people who might possess the qualities of a main character and brings him to Hakoniwa. His transfer occurs during the conflict surrounding Medaka's succession and Zenkichi's attempt to establish an identity independent of her.

Kamome initially challenges Zenkichi's claim to the protagonist role, but he soon becomes involved with the broader group surrounding the True Flask Plan.

Kamome's family history later becomes central to the Jet Black Wedding Feast and Unknown Shiranui conflicts. He learns that Fukurou conceived him as an attempt to produce a gentler version of Hato and abandoned him when he was born male.

Fukurou Tsurubami is Kamome's father. Their relationship is defined by Fukurou's attempt to recreate Hato and his subsequent abandonment of Kamome and Kamome's mother.

Hato Tsurubami is Kamome's aunt. Kamome's existence is tied to Fukurou's obsession with creating someone resembling a gentler version of Hato.

Medaka Kurokami is Kamome's cousin through Hato and the Kurokami family.

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi becomes Kamome's early rival over the idea of who better fits the role of a main character, beginning with an argument over manga preferences.

Najimi Ajimu discovers Kamome and brings him to Hakoniwa because she considers him interesting enough to have protagonist potential.

Kajiki Kurokami is Kamome's uncle through Hato.
