Gakuto Sougetsu

Gakuto is serious, disciplined, formal, and extremely concerned with rules. As student council president, he believes order is necessary for the school to function properly and has little tolerance for behavior that violates established regulations.

His strictness is sincere rather than malicious. Gakuto genuinely believes that following rules and maintaining tradition are honorable responsibilities, particularly because he has inherited the Sougetsu Style.

Spending time with Yuga, Luke and Romin gradually makes him more flexible. He never completely abandons his formal personality, but he learns that rules can be questioned when they prevent people from enjoying themselves or doing what is right.

Gakuto is trained in the Sougetsu Style, a traditional school of dueling passed down through his family. His discipline and knowledge make him an experienced duelist even before he begins using Rush Duel rules.

His deck predominantly uses Warrior monsters with designs inspired by Japanese history and culture. Yameruler the Dark Delayer is one of his principal aces and can restrict the opponent's ability to Tribute Summon high-Level monsters.

Gakuto approaches duels methodically. Rather than relying on Luke's aggressive Dragon tactics or Yuga's experimental combinations, he emphasizes control, discipline and carefully timed plays.

Gakuto initially opposes Yuga's unauthorized Rush Duel system because it violates Goha's established rules. His confrontation with Yuga forces him to experience the new format directly rather than judging it entirely from regulations.

After accepting Rush Duels, Gakuto becomes one of Yuga's closest companions. His position on the student council also gives the group a connection to the institutional side of Goha 7th Elementary.

He participates in the repeated conflicts surrounding Goha Enterprises, Rush Duels and the different groups seeking to control or eliminate Yuga's invention. His traditional outlook often provides a useful counterpoint to Yuga's constant experimentation.

Yuuga Oudou initially frustrates Gakuto because of his willingness to challenge established rules. Gakuto eventually respects Yuuga Oudou and becomes one of his most reliable friends.

Tatsuhisa Kamijou is another member of Gakuto's regular group. Gakuto frequently has to contend with Tatsuhisa Kamijou's impulsiveness and exaggerated confidence.

Romin Kirishima becomes Gakuto's friend through their shared adventures with Yuga and Luke.

Ranze Nanahoshi and Rinnosuke Nanahoshi serve Gakuto through their connection to the Sougetsu Style and frequently accompany him.
