Faputa

Faputa is fierce, impulsive and intensely possessive. Her mannerisms can appear animalistic, and she moves rapidly between affection, curiosity and aggression. She dislikes being stared at and responds violently when she believes someone has threatened what belongs to her.

Reg brings out a more vulnerable side. Faputa remembers him as someone deeply important, so his amnesia is bewildering and painful. She becomes jealous of his attachment to Riko and Nanachi but is also forced to consider that the Reg standing before her has developed relationships and priorities she did not share.

Faputa is capable of learning from others despite the absolute certainty with which she initially approaches her purpose. Her encounters with people who remember events differently gradually force her to decide what she wants apart from what she was born to accomplish.

Faputa possesses tremendous strength, speed and agility. She can restrain Reg with only part of her strength, traverse the Sixth Layer rapidly and fight dangerous creatures at close range using the large claws on her four arms.

She can alter her body considerably, stretching and contorting it beyond ordinary anatomical limits. Her fur can envelop her body into a smoke-like traveling form capable of carrying small passengers.

Unlike ordinary humans and many other beings, Faputa can ascend through the Abyss without suffering its Curse. Near Iruburu, material associated with her siblings can repeatedly repair otherwise devastating injuries. Consuming the value offered by the villagers later allows her to regenerate and grow stronger independently.

Faputa initially observes Riko's group from outside Iruburu. Her recognition of Reg immediately establishes that his forgotten history extends deeper into the Abyss than he remembers.

She possesses knowledge of Reg's previous journey and remembers a promise he made to her. Because she cannot freely enter Iruburu, his return creates an opportunity connected to a task she has been unable to accomplish herself.

Faputa is Irumyuui's final child, born from the accumulated power of three Cradles of Desire and carrying her mother's rage and wishes. She was born with the purpose of destroying Iruburu and ending the existence created from Irumyuui's body.

After Reg breaks the village barrier, Faputa enters Iruburu and begins carrying out that purpose. Her experiences during the village's destruction ultimately force her to confront whether inherited vengeance should determine the rest of her life. After Iruburu disappears, she accepts Reg's invitation to accompany the group deeper into the Abyss.

Reg knew Faputa before losing his memories and promised to help her. She considers him her possession and reacts painfully when he no longer remembers their relationship.

Riko initially attracts Faputa's jealousy because Reg chooses to travel with her. After Iruburu's destruction, Faputa joins Riko's group and begins developing a relationship with her independent of that rivalry.

Nanachi is another of Reg's companions and someone Faputa initially views through her possessiveness toward him.

Irumyuui is Faputa's mother. Faputa inherits her mother's accumulated wishes, anger and desire to destroy the village formed from her body.

Vueko was deeply loved by Irumyuui, and Faputa recognizes that bond when she finally encounters her.

Gaburoon becomes Faputa's companion and teacher before Riko's group arrives, helping her learn language and giving her the name Faputa.

Majikaja regards Faputa as the Princess of the Hollows and explains her status to the travelers.
