Personality
Personality
Gaburoon speaks in a precise, factual manner shaped by its original observational purpose. It asks questions directly and approaches unfamiliar phenomena as things to be studied rather than feared.
Its relationship with Faputa develops qualities far beyond detached observation. Gaburoon becomes patient, loyal and protective, teaching her language while learning from her in return. Their exchanges help both develop concepts for experiences and emotions that neither could initially express clearly.
Gaburoon is willing to prioritize Faputa's future over its own safety. It also recognizes that protecting someone may require opposing their immediate desires rather than simply obeying them.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Gaburoon has a large mechanical body equipped for observation and survival in the Sixth Layer. Its right arm incorporates a cannon, while its left resembles a powerful pincer. Its forearms can launch outward and retract in a manner reminiscent of Reg's extendable limbs.
Interference Units were designed to observe and interact with their surroundings to collect information. Gaburoon explains that units once operated across multiple layers but could not normally travel between them, and communication from the others had long since ceased.
Despite its formidable body, Gaburoon acknowledges that it cannot defeat the Sixth Layer's largest predators directly and instead relies on diversions and tactical responses.
Story Role
Story Role
Gaburoon first becomes important through Faputa's life outside Iruburu. She discovers the damaged machine, brings it materials for repairs and gradually forms a companionship with it.
Gaburoon teaches Faputa language and gives her the name "Faputa," while she names the machine Gaburoon, meaning the Queen's Guardian. The two later meet Reg during his earlier journey through the Sixth Layer, and Gaburoon notices similarities between Reg's construction and its own.
During the destruction of Iruburu, Gaburoon protects Riko in order to preserve Faputa's future and her relationship with Reg. The damage it suffers proves fatal, and it tells Faputa that their time together was its Haku—its highest value.
Relationships
Relationships
Faputa is Gaburoon's closest companion. They repair and teach one another, exchange names and develop a bond in which Gaburoon accepts the role of her guardian.
Reg meets Gaburoon before losing his memories and helps protect the damaged machine. Gaburoon wonders whether their similar construction could indicate some connection between their creators.
Riko is protected by Gaburoon during the collapse of Iruburu because the machine believes her survival matters to Faputa's future.
