Belaf

Belaf is intelligent, eloquent and intensely sensitive to beauty. As a human, his powerful senses allow him to appreciate the world with unusual intensity, and he speaks about beauty as something extending beyond physical appearance.

He also possesses a strong conscience. During Ganja's crisis, Belaf is devastated when survival requires actions that violate his moral convictions. His inability to reconcile gratitude for being alive with the cost of that survival pushes him toward despair.

As a Narehate, he initially appears more detached and transactional, reflecting Iruburu's system of value. His older compassion nevertheless remains significant beneath that exterior.

Belaf's Narehate body is enormous and serpentine, giving him a physical scale far beyond his original human form. His lair forms a substantial part of Iruburu, and his status as a Sage gives him considerable influence within the village.

The village's rules of value allow Belaf to trade parts of himself for things he desires. He sacrifices a large portion of his body to have Iruburu create an exact copy of Mitty after seeing the original brought into the village by Bondrewd.

Belaf can transmit memories and sensations. Near the end of Iruburu's existence, he gives Nanachi his memories of Ganja and Irumyuui, allowing those experiences to survive through them.

Belaf is introduced as one of Iruburu's Three Sages and becomes central to Nanachi's story when Majikaja reveals that he possesses a perfect recreation of Mitty.

Riko visits his lair seeking Nanachi and learns how strictly the village interprets value. Belaf offers exchanges rather than simply returning what Riko wants, forcing her to confront what she is willing to sacrifice.

Belaf's human past reveals him as a member of Ganja who is horrified by the consumption of Irumyuui's children. He eventually offers his body and soul to Irumyuui in remorse, becoming one of Iruburu's first Narehate.

During Faputa's assault, Belaf returns his memories of Irumyuui to her and protects Nanachi before allowing his own existence to end with the village.

Nanachi offers themself to Belaf in exchange for his recreated Mitty. Belaf later releases Nanachi and entrusts them with his memories.

Mitty is recreated perfectly by Iruburu after Belaf sacrifices a substantial portion of his own body to obtain her.

Wazukyan is Belaf's fellow Sage and former leader in Ganja. Belaf trusts his extraordinary instincts even when their consequences become horrifying.

Vueroeruko is the third of Ganja's Three Sages and shares Belaf's history before Iruburu.

Irumyuui becomes the living foundation of Iruburu. Belaf's guilt over consuming her children leads him to surrender himself to her.

Faputa receives Belaf's memories of Irumyuui during the destruction of the village.
