Bayon

Bayon is aristocratic, calculating and intensely obsessed with hunting humans. Unlike demons who are satisfied simply consuming farm products, he values the sensation of personally pursuing and killing his meal.

His behavior at Goldy Pond is controlled rather than impulsive. He understands that the reserve violates the spirit of the system established by the Promise and therefore keeps his pastime hidden from ordinary society.

Bayon is also an experienced enough hunter to recognize when prey has become dangerous. During the resistance uprising, his initial confidence gives way to genuine exhilaration as the children force him into the kind of life-or-death hunt he has rarely experienced.

Bayon possesses exceptional physical strength, speed and durability. His enormous body does not prevent him from moving quickly, and ordinary human fighters cannot match him directly.

As a demon, he can regenerate serious injuries as long as his vital central eye remains intact. He protects that weakness with a mask and relies on his physical abilities and hunting experience to prevent opponents from gaining a clean shot.

Centuries of hunting have also given Bayon sharp instincts. He can analyze the behavior of prey, detect ambushes and adapt when opponents begin using coordinated tactics.

Bayon's history reaches back to the period surrounding the original Promise. He belongs to demon nobility and eventually becomes an investor and manager associated with human farms. His dissatisfaction with ordinary farmed meat leads him to hunt live humans privately.

Peter Ratri learns about Bayon's illegal pastime and provides access to Goldy Pond, where the hunts can continue in secrecy. Bayon supplies children, primarily from Grand Valley, while Leuvis, Nous, Nouma and Luce join him as Poachers.

During the Goldy Pond uprising, the Resistance executes a coordinated plan against Bayon. He inflicts severe injuries on several fighters but is eventually overwhelmed after the children exploit his central eye, bringing his centuries of hunting to an end.

Leuvis is one of Bayon's fellow aristocratic hunters and among the most dangerous Poachers invited to Goldy Pond.

Nous and Nouma participate in Bayon's hunts as a sibling pair from another noble family.

Luce is another demon noble who joins the Goldy Pond hunting group.

Peter Ratri knows about Bayon's illegal hunting and provides him with access to Goldy Pond, allowing the reserve to operate in secrecy.

Oliver leads the resistance against Bayon's hunting operation.

Lucas helps organize the children who have spent years preparing to destroy Bayon and the other Poachers.

Bayon II is Bayon's son and succeeds him as the head of their Regent Family.
