Loid uses a school disciplinary matter to arrange his first direct conversation with Donovan, carefully presenting himself as an understanding parent while studying his target’s guarded behavior. Subsequent missions follow the Forgers and their associates through school rivalries, domestic mishaps, and Yuri’s pursuit of an anti-government writer.

The focus then shifts to Yor’s work for Garden. The Shopkeeper assigns her to protect Olka Gretcher, the surviving member of a deposed criminal family, and her infant son during their covert passage aboard the Princess Lorelei. Yor accepts despite growing uncertainty about balancing assassination work with her life as a Forger, while Loid and Anya unexpectedly obtain tickets for the same cruise.
