After Chōji's battle, the retrieval squad continues its pursuit while the remaining members of the Sound Four separate to delay them individually. Kidōmaru isolates Neji Hyūga, forcing the Hyūga prodigy into a battle that steadily exposes the strengths and weaknesses of both the Byakugan and the spider-like shinobi's long-range techniques.

Elsewhere, Sakon and Ukon engage Kiba Inuzuka and Akamaru. Their unique kekkei genkai allows them to invade another person's body, making conventional attacks increasingly dangerous. As the battles intensify, both Neji and Kiba are forced to stake everything on decisive finishing blows despite sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Although Neji successfully pierces Kidōmaru's vital organs with the Gentle Fist and Kiba escapes Sakon and Ukon's possession, both Leaf ninja collapse from exhaustion and severe wounds. Their sacrifices ensure that Naruto and the remaining members of the retrieval squad continue advancing toward Sasuke.
