Neji Hyuuga

Neji is initially stoic, dismissive, and strongly fatalistic. He believes people cannot escape the abilities, social position, or destiny assigned at birth.

His resentment focuses especially on the Hyūga main family. As a branch-family member, Neji bears the Caged Bird Seal and is expected to protect main-family members regardless of his personal wishes.

Because he considers himself a natural genius, Neji is particularly dismissive of Lee's effort-based ambition and Naruto's claims that he can change his fate.

His worldview changes substantially after the Chūnin Exams. Once Neji learns more about his father's choices and experiences defeat against Naruto, his confidence remains but loses much of its cruelty.

Neji is an exceptional Byakugan user. His vision approaches a full sphere around his body with only a small blind spot and allows him to perceive chakra pathways and tenketsu.

He specializes in Gentle Fist, injecting chakra through his fingertips to disrupt an opponent's internal chakra network rather than relying on external blunt-force damage.

Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms strikes a sequence of chakra points at extreme speed, progressively shutting down the target's ability to circulate chakra.

Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven releases chakra from the body while Neji spins, forming a rotating defense capable of deflecting attacks from almost any direction.

Remarkably, Neji reconstructs advanced main-family techniques through observation and talent despite being a branch-family member without ordinary access to their instruction.

In Part II, his ability matures enough that he holds the rank of jōnin while most of his contemporaries remain chūnin.

Neji enters the Chūnin Exams as one of Konoha's strongest genin after already spending a year on Team Guy.

His preliminary match against Hinata Hyuuga exposes the bitterness underlying his calm exterior. He attacks not simply to win but to prove that Hinata cannot escape what he considers her predetermined weakness.

Naruto objects strongly to Neji's philosophy and later faces him in the tournament finals. Neji dominates much of their fight by closing Naruto's chakra points.

During the war, Neji sacrifices himself while shielding Naruto and Hinata from an attack by the Ten-Tails, choosing freely to protect them rather than acting under the compulsory duty that once defined his branch-family existence.

Hinata Hyuuga is Neji's cousin and a member of the Hyūga main family. He initially resents Hinata Hyuuga as a symbol of the system that controls his branch, but later becomes genuinely protective of her.

Hizashi Hyuga is Neji's father. Neji's fatalistic worldview grows largely from misunderstanding the circumstances of Hizashi Hyuga's death.

Hiashi Hyuga is Neji's uncle and leader of the clan's main family. Hiashi Hyuga eventually reveals that Hizashi chose his final action rather than being simply forced to die for the main branch.

Rock Lee regards Neji as the genius he wants to surpass. Neji initially dismisses Rock Lee's ambition but grows to respect his teammate's perseverance and courage.

Might Guy is Neji's teacher. Might Guy's emphasis on teamwork and personal growth helps pull Neji away from the isolation encouraged by his clan resentment.

Tenten is Neji's teammate and frequent training partner. Tenten recognizes his talent without sharing his early fatalistic outlook.

Naruto Uzumaki defeats Neji during the Chūnin Exams and challenges his concept of predetermined fate. That encounter becomes one of the major turning points in Neji's life.
