Naruto Vol. 17

Naruto begins traveling with Jiraiya, who introduces him to the Rasengan, a difficult technique created by the Fourth Hokage that demands exceptional chakra control rather than hand seals. Although Naruto struggles with the exercise, Jiraiya breaks the process into distinct stages, allowing his student to progress steadily while they continue searching for Tsunade.

Back in Konoha, Sasuke learns that Itachi has returned. Ignoring warnings from his comrades, he confronts his older brother at the hotel where the Akatsuki members have cornered Naruto. Sasuke attacks with the Chidori but is effortlessly defeated. Itachi overwhelms him physically and mentally before forcing him to relive the Uchiha clan massacre through Tsukuyomi, leaving Sasuke emotionally devastated.

Naruto escapes with Jiraiya after the Sannin counters Itachi's Amaterasu by trapping the black flames within a summoned toad's stomach. Realizing that capturing Naruto would require a prolonged battle, Itachi and Kisame withdraw. The encounter reinforces the overwhelming threat posed by the Akatsuki while strengthening Naruto's determination to master the Rasengan before facing them again.
