Naruto Vol. 13

After Shikamaru forfeits against Temari, Sasuke arrives with Kakashi and is permitted to face Gaara. Sasuke initially reproduces the extreme speed Rock Lee displayed during the preliminary round, allowing him to bypass Gaara’s automatic defense. When Gaara encloses himself within a sphere of sand, Sasuke unveils the Chidori, piercing the barrier and wounding an opponent who had never before seen his own blood.

Gaara’s injury triggers the invasion plan. A genjutsu places much of the audience to sleep, Hidden Sand and Hidden Sound forces attack Konoha, and Orochimaru takes the Third Hokage hostage before revealing his identity. Gaara, whose planned transformation has been interrupted, retreats with Temari and Kankurō. Sasuke abandons the arena to pursue them.

Kakashi dispels the genjutsu affecting Sakura and assigns her, Naruto, and Shikamaru to follow Sasuke, summoning Pakkun to track his scent. Shikamaru remains behind to delay pursuing Sound ninja, while Sasuke continues after Gaara. Orochimaru traps the Third Hokage inside a barrier maintained by four elite subordinates and begins their confrontation by summoning the deceased First and Second Hokage to fight their former student.
