Senku, Taiju and Yuzuriha begin producing gunpowder after noticing smoke that may have been created by another survivor. Their efforts draw the attention of Tsukasa, whose plan for the new world is fundamentally opposed to Senku's vision. The resulting confrontation forces the group to divide and establish two competing societies.
Senku's group searches for sulfur, charcoal and potassium nitrate to produce gunpowder capable of deterring Tsukasa. A distant smoke signal suggests that other humans may already be active, but responding reveals the group's position. Tsukasa confronts Senku and demands the revival-fluid formula, threatening Yuzuriha to force his cooperation.
Senku refuses to abandon his goal of restoring all humanity, leading Tsukasa to strike what appears to be a fatal blow. Taiju and Yuzuriha escape by igniting the gunpowder, while an unpetrified section of Senku's neck activates the restorative properties of the revival fluid and saves him. Senku subsequently sends his friends to infiltrate Tsukasa's emerging empire while he searches for the unknown people behind the smoke signal.
