Motivated by the cryptic transmission they intercepted, Senku and a carefully selected crew prepare for a lengthy overseas expedition. Their first destination is the island where the founders of Ishigami Village once lived, which may hold both a valuable scientific resource and clues to the petrification phenomenon.
Senku completes the motorized sailing ship Perseus and selects a crew combining scientific, navigational, physical and diplomatic expertise. Before crossing the Pacific, the expedition visits the island where Byakuya and the other astronauts founded humanity’s first post-petrification community. There, the crew searches for precious metals left for Senku inside the Soyuz space capsule.
Upon approaching the island, Soyuz recovers memories revealing that it is his birthplace. Most of the Perseus crew are suddenly petrified by an unknown weapon, leaving only a small reconnaissance group free. They encounter Amaryllis, who explains that the island’s rulers possess a device capable of turning people to stone.
