Senku Ishigami and the Kingdom of Science are determined to reach the moon, but their preparations first require the construction of a working computer. With Sai Nanami providing the necessary programming expertise, the rocket project advances until Senku reveals a severe limitation facing the planned mission.
Sai introduces the Kingdom of Science to binary processing, allowing its craftsmen to assemble a functional mechanical computer from thousands of components. The machine makes the immense calculations required for rocket development possible, while telecommunications and automated manufacturing further accelerate the project.
Senku then reveals that their limited resources favor a one-way mission whose astronauts would be petrified after confronting Why-man and revived by people on Earth. Unwilling to accept that sacrifice, Chrome proposes constructing a return vehicle in lunar orbit. The Kingdom of Science embraces the more difficult plan and begins transforming its scattered scientific settlements into a unified global production network.
