Personality
Personality
Zuu Mei is gentle, eccentric and prone to appearing absent-minded. The demeanor can make him seem detached from his surroundings, but he becomes lucid and serious immediately when circumstances demand it.
He carries profound regret about decisions made when he was younger and more concerned with the power of the Chang clan. That guilt makes him unusually sympathetic toward people harmed by the Black Order's experiments.
He also enjoys practical crafts and cooking. Zuu Mei trained Jeryy as a cook, passing on skills that eventually made Jerry the head chef at European headquarters.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Zuu Mei was once regarded as the greatest sorcerer of the Chang family. Although old age has reduced his stamina, he retains substantial magical knowledge.
His golem Atuuda can heal severe injuries by drawing upon Zuu Mei's own life force. The technique is powerful but limited by his physical condition and therefore dangerous for an elderly user.
As a metallurgist and Anti-Akuma Weapon craftsman, Zuu Mei also possesses specialized knowledge of Innocence-compatible equipment. He forged Mugen for Yu Kanda, tying his craftsmanship directly to one of the Order's artificial Exorcists.
Story Role
Story Role
Zuu Mei's importance emerges when the story returns to the Asian Branch and the history of its experiments. His past at Central and involvement with the Chang family give him firsthand knowledge of decisions hidden from younger members of the Order.
Contrary to the claim that he merely witnessed the Second Exorcist program, Zuu Mei was the person who proposed its fundamental concept during his more ambitious years at Central. He later becomes consumed by guilt over what the program did to Kanda and Alma Karma.
During the confrontation at the Asian Branch, he uses Atuuda to help the wounded and pleads for an end to the violence. Later, Malcolm C. Lvellie turns to his former teacher when Howard Link is critically injured, and Zuu Mei uses his remaining power to save him.
Relationships
Relationships
Bak Chang is Zuu Mei's great-nephew and a descendant of the Chang family whose magical tradition Zuu Mei once represented at Central.
Jeryy learned cooking from Zuu Mei before becoming head chef at the European headquarters.
Yu Kanda was one of the children produced by the Second Exorcist project Zuu Mei proposed. Zuu Mei later becomes a confidant to Kanda and carries intense guilt over his suffering.
Alma Karma is another victim of the program Zuu Mei helped set in motion, and Zuu Mei desperately wants to protect him when the truth resurfaces.
Malcolm C. Lvellie was once Zuu Mei's student at Central. Their history allows Zuu Mei to address him by his given name, while their later moral positions create considerable tension.
Howard Link is saved by Zuu Mei's healing magic after being critically wounded.
