Personality
Personality
Alma is outgoing, affectionate and far more sociable than Yu Kanda. He enjoys talking, dislikes solitude and quickly attaches himself to the other artificial child after Kanda awakens. Their frequent arguments and fights coexist with a bond stronger than either has with the researchers around them.
His cheerful disposition is vulnerable to the memories and suffering embedded in his artificial existence. Alma wants to understand who he is and why fragments of another life intrude upon his thoughts.
Discovering what the Second Exorcist Program actually did to create him destroys Alma's trust in the scientists. His horror turns into violent rage, and the affectionate child raised inside the laboratory becomes willing to kill the people responsible.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Alma is created through the Second Exorcist Program using the brain of a deceased Exorcist transplanted into an artificial body. Like Kanda, his body possesses extraordinary regenerative capabilities.
He is compatible with a parasitic-type Innocence that manifests through his body, giving him the combat abilities expected of the Order's artificial Exorcists.
After his body is later used as the "First Womb" of the Third Exorcist Program, Alma becomes saturated with Dark Matter and transforms into an Akuma. His altered body gains Akuma weaponry and enormous destructive power while retaining the regenerative characteristics associated with his artificial body.
Story Role
Story Role
Alma's history is revealed when events at the Asian Branch force Yu Kanda to confront memories he has long suppressed. Both children were products of the Second Exorcist Program, an attempt to reuse the brains of dead Exorcists by implanting them into new bodies.
Alma discovers that he and Kanda are artificial reincarnations of deceased Exorcists and that the woman appearing in Kanda's memories was Alma's previous incarnation. After learning the truth, Alma massacres researchers at the facility and fights Kanda, who ultimately defeats him.
The Order preserves Alma's damaged body rather than allowing him to die and later uses it as the First Womb for the Third Exorcists. When he awakens years later, the resulting confrontation reunites him with Kanda and exposes the full cruelty of the Second Exorcist Program.
Relationships
Relationships
Yu Kanda is Alma's closest companion from childhood. They begin as constantly bickering friends inside the laboratory. Their connection ultimately reaches back to their previous lives: Alma carries the brain of the woman Kanda loved before both original Exorcists died. The two acknowledge their feelings before Alma's final moments.
Tui Chang and Edgar Chang Martin are among the scientists responsible for the Second Exorcist Program. Alma initially treats the researchers as family before learning the truth of his creation and turning against them.
Allen Walker encounters Alma during the later crisis at the Asian Branch and attempts to understand the bond between him and Kanda.
Wisely uses his mental powers to expose Kanda and Alma's suppressed history to those present during their confrontation.
