Yuri Dreyar

Yuri is bold, greedy, competitive, stubborn, and initially willing to deceive people if doing so helps secure treasure. When he first meets Mavis Vermillion, he lies about being a botanist before admitting that he has come to Tenrou Island in search of its sacred Tenrou Jade.

He enjoys loud, flashy objects and magic, which influences both the explosives he carries and his later decision to learn Lightning Magic.

Traveling with Mavis gradually changes his priorities. Yuri becomes more open-minded and increasingly ashamed of the selfishness that originally defined his treasure hunting. His loyalty to Mavis eventually becomes far more important than obtaining valuable relics.

Yuri uses Lightning Magic, producing and manipulating electricity for offensive combat. He learns the discipline rapidly and becomes proficient enough to defeat multiple enemies soon after acquiring it.

Before becoming a conventional mage, Yuri relies heavily on magical and technological equipment. Judgment Field creates a zone in which participants are unable to lie, making it useful in games or negotiations.

Crystal Bombs explode on contact, while his bazooka can fire explosive projectiles even underwater. He also uses specialized diving equipment during treasure-hunting expeditions.

Yuri travels to Tenrou Island in X686 with Precht and Warrod to recover the Tenrou Jade. He encounters Mavis and challenges her to a game of truth when she refuses to surrender information about the island's treasure.

When the group learns that Blue Skull stole the Jade years earlier, the treasure hunters join Mavis in traveling to Magnolia.

There they encounter Zeref, who teaches Yuri Lightning Magic and trains the others in their own disciplines before the campaign against Blue Skull.

Yuri eventually takes the corrupted Tenrou Jade despite Mavis's warning and becomes fused with the massive skeletal dragon atop Kardia Cathedral. Mavis saves him by using an incomplete version of Law, but the spell permanently affects her physical development.

Overcome with guilt, Yuri vows to protect Mavis and help realize her dream. Yuri, Mavis, Precht, and Warrod subsequently establish Fairy Tail together.

He later marries Rita Dreyar, and their son Makarov becomes one of Fairy Tail's most important future Guild Masters.

Mavis Vermillion begins as Yuri's rival over the Tenrou Jade and develops into one of the people he trusts most. After she saves him from the corrupted Jade, he vows to protect her and her dream.

Precht Gaebolg and Warrod Sequen are Yuri's longtime treasure-hunting partners and fellow Fairy Tail founders.

Zera accompanies Mavis during their journey. After Mavis recognizes Zera's true nature, Zera entrusts Yuri with looking after Mavis.

Zeref teaches Yuri Lightning Magic before the founding of Fairy Tail.

Rita Dreyar is Yuri's wife.

Makarov Dreyar is Yuri's son.

Ivan Dreyar is Yuri's grandson, and Laxus Dreyar is his great-grandson.
