Laxus Dreyar

Laxus initially appears arrogant, confrontational, and obsessed with strength. He despises being defined as Makarov's grandson and wants recognition to come from his own power rather than his family name.

His contempt for weakness eventually develops into an attempt to remake Fairy Tail according to his own standards. Yet even at his worst, his loyalty to the guild remains buried beneath resentment and pride, creating contradictions that become crucial when his plans reach their extreme.

After facing the consequences of his actions, Laxus becomes quieter, humbler, and increasingly willing to put himself in danger for his guildmates. His attachment to Fairy Tail eventually becomes one of his most defining qualities.

Laxus is a master of Lightning Magic, generating enormous electrical discharges, coating his body in lightning, moving at high speed, and reinforcing physical attacks with electricity. His raw magical reserves rank among the greatest in Fairy Tail.

Laxus is also a second-generation Dragon Slayer. His father implanted a Lightning Dragon Lacrima into him as a child, granting Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic despite Laxus never having been trained by a dragon. The magic allows him to consume lightning, perform techniques such as Lightning Dragon's Roar, and combine draconic power with his ordinary Lightning Magic.

He also learns Fairy Law from Makarov's tradition. The spell discriminates between allies and enemies according to the caster's heart, a characteristic that becomes especially important when Laxus attempts to use it during the Battle of Fairy Tail.

Laxus spends his earliest appearances away from Fairy Tail's major crises, refusing to help during the Phantom Lord war and criticizing guildmates he considers weak.

He eventually initiates the Battle of Fairy Tail, trapping members around Magnolia and forcing them to compete while Thunder Palace threatens the city. His intention is to depose Makarov and rebuild Fairy Tail around strength.

His defeat by Natsu Dragneel and Gajeel Redfox brings that rebellion to an end. Makarov expels him from Fairy Tail, but the farewell gesture shared during the Fantasia parade shows that the guild still regards him as family.

Laxus later returns during the battle against Hades on Tenrou Island, is eventually accepted back into Fairy Tail, and grows into one of its most reliable defenders.

Makarov Dreyar is Laxus's grandfather and guild master. Their bond is loving but strained by Laxus's resentment over living in Makarov's shadow.

Ivan Dreyar is connected to Laxus through family: Ivan is his father and the person who implanted the Lightning Dragon Lacrima into him.

Fried Justine, Evergreen, and Bickslow form the Thunder God Tribe, the team most closely associated with Laxus and intensely loyal to him.

Natsu Dragneel becomes one of Laxus's principal rivals within the guild and helps defeat him during the Battle of Fairy Tail.

Gajeel Redfox joins Natsu against Laxus during that same battle.
