Personality
Personality
Yoshitsune is exceptionally intelligent, eccentric and confident in his ability to read a situation. He enjoys games and strategic challenges, and his skill at Tetris becomes a recurring shorthand for the speed with which he can organize complicated information.
He also shares the series' tendency toward crude humor and can behave perversely despite his otherwise composed leadership. When circumstances become serious, however, the frivolity disappears quickly. Yoshitsune takes responsibility for Trident and the riders under his protection.
His alliances are pragmatic. He does not mistake cooperation for unconditional loyalty and can work with a faction while openly anticipating the possibility of fighting it later.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Yoshitsune follows the Over Road and holds the Rumble Regalia, Ram Jet. The Over Road exploits air resistance, absorbing and redirecting the pressure created by other riders' movement and attacks.
Ram Jet can neutralize wind-based techniques by taking in their airflow. When Agito Wanijima attempts to assist Ikki with a Fang during Yoshitsune's challenge, the Rumble Regalia intercepts and nullifies the pressure.
Yoshitsune is sufficiently skilled that he does not depend completely on the original Regalia. He can reproduce aspects of the Over Road using improvised objects such as empty cans, demonstrating that his mastery lies in understanding the Road's physics rather than simply possessing powerful equipment.
His tactical intelligence is equally important. He studies enemy capabilities, prepares layered countermeasures and can direct large groups of riders efficiently under battlefield conditions.
Story Role
Story Role
Yoshitsune meets Ikki in Kansai and subjects him to the Devil's Thirty-Thirty, a dangerous jumping challenge used to test his worth. Ikki's successful attempt earns Yoshitsune's respect and helps establish cooperation between Trident and the forces gathering around Genesis.
He subsequently acts as both ally and adviser to Kogarasumaru while maintaining Trident's independent interests. His strategic expertise makes him particularly valuable as conflicts grow beyond ordinary Parts Wars.
When Sora takes control of Genesis, Yoshitsune refuses simply to surrender Trident's autonomy. The resulting conflict brings Genesis's forces into Kansai, where Yoshitsune organizes the defense of Osaka against an overwhelming mechanized attack.
Yoshitsune defeats Gawain and Percival during the battle but is left exhausted and severely injured. Nike subsequently kills him, bringing Trident's direct resistance to Genesis to an end and leaving Benkei to carry the consequences of the battle.
Relationships
Relationships
Benkei is Yoshitsune's closest partner in Trident and his principal companion in the defense of Kansai. Their trust allows them to coordinate without lengthy explanation. Benkei survives the battle that kills Yoshitsune and carries his legacy into the later conflict with Genesis.
Itsuki Minami earns Yoshitsune's respect by completing the Devil's Thirty-Thirty. Yoshitsune subsequently advises and assists Kogarasumaru while retaining an interest in eventually testing himself against Ikki again.
Yasuyoshi Sano is a fellow strategist and friend whose intelligence makes him one of Yoshitsune's more natural peers.
Simca is the leader under whom Yoshitsune initially agrees to cooperate with Genesis, seeing the alliance as advantageous to Trident.
Sora Takeuchi becomes Yoshitsune's enemy after taking control of Genesis and moving against forces unwilling to submit to his objectives.
Nike leads the attack that ultimately overwhelms Trident's resistance and kills Yoshitsune after his battle with Gawain and Percival.
Benkei remains the person most closely associated with Yoshitsune's final stand and the survival of Trident's legacy.
