Yoshikawa is laid-back, courageous and considerate toward his teammates. Even before boarding the alien mothership, he can joke about the likelihood that the operation is effectively a suicide mission.
His casual manner does not indicate recklessness toward other people. When an injured teammate asks him to perform a drastic action, Yoshikawa checks that the request is serious before proceeding.
He shows little hesitation when battle begins. Even against opponents whose durability makes conventional Gantz attacks ineffective, Yoshikawa closes the distance and searches for a vulnerable point.

Yoshikawa is one of the series' most proficient Gantz sword users. He normally fights with two blades simultaneously and appears comfortable attacking with either hand.
His speed is exceptional even among enhanced hunters. Kurono has difficulty visually following some of his movements, while Yazawa places him alongside Kurono, Katou, Daizaemon Kaze and Mary McClane when identifying the strongest fighters in the assembled group.
Yoshikawa can adapt when his weapons fail, continuing with a single sword after one breaks and identifying weak points on otherwise heavily protected enemies.

Yoshikawa joins the regional hunters who respond to the Tokyo team's call and participates in the assault on the giant alien mothership.
He helps fight the ship's powerful defenders and demonstrates the value of close-range attacks when conventional weapons prove ineffective.
Yoshikawa later participates in the battle against Eeva Gund. His speed and dual-sword technique allow him to land attacks against an opponent who overwhelms entire groups of skilled Gantz hunters.
