Reika Shimohira

Reika is compassionate, composed and considerably more courageous than her celebrity image initially suggests. She cares about the survival of other participants and is willing to enter dangerous fights when someone needs assistance.

Her feelings for Kurono become one of her strongest personal motivations. She admires not simply his combat ability but the willingness to risk himself for people who cannot protect themselves.

Reika is nevertheless capable of selfish decisions when those feelings overwhelm her judgment. The conflict between respecting Kurono's choices and wanting a life with him becomes increasingly difficult for her to resolve.

Reika becomes a highly capable Gantz hunter despite having no previous combat background. She uses the Gantz suit effectively and demonstrates competence with both the X-Gun and longer-ranged Gantz firearms.

She develops into an effective marksman, including using the X-Shotgun from elevated positions. Her composure under pressure allows her to support teammates rather than simply concentrating on her own survival.

Reika also encourages the Tokyo hunters to train between missions, helping transform the group from a collection of randomly selected participants into a more prepared fighting unit.

Reika enters the story as a famous idol caught among the victims of Izumi's Shinjuku massacre. Her first Gantz mission exposes her to Kurono's leadership and begins her attachment to him.

Reika later accumulates 100 points and chooses to revive Tae because she knows that Tae's return will make Kurono happy. After Kurono earns his freedom, Reika takes over much of the Tokyo team's leadership.

Her unrequited feelings eventually lead her to use another 100-point reward to create a second Kurono from Gantz's stored data. That decision produces two simultaneous versions of Kurono and allows Reika to pursue the relationship she could not have with the original.

Kei Kurono is the person Reika admires most strongly after entering Gantz. She falls in love with Kei Kurono, but the original Kurono chooses Tae and does not return her feelings in the way she hopes.

Tae Kojima is Reika's romantic rival, but Reika does not simply treat her as an enemy. Reika sacrifices a 100-point reward to revive Tae because she knows doing so will make Kurono happy.

Masaru Katou becomes one of Reika's strongest teammates and, like Kurono, prioritizes protecting people over accumulating points.

Yoshikazu Suzuki is another trusted member of the Tokyo team and participates in the cooperative group Reika helps maintain.
