Yasopp

Yasopp is confident, sociable and proud of his identity as a pirate. During the Red Hair Pirates’ stay in Foosha Village, he drinks and celebrates with the crew while telling Monkey D. Luffy about his son.

He values freedom enough to leave his family when Shanks invites him to sea. The manga does not present this choice as a model of domestic responsibility, and later material shows that Yasopp feels apprehensive about facing the son he left behind.

In battle he is calm and decisive. His relaxed manner disappears when the crew identifies a threat, and he can act at extreme range without hesitation.

Yasopp is one of the world’s foremost marksmen. He claims he can shoot the antennae off an ant at considerable distance without harming the rest of it, an illustrative boast consistent with his established precision.

He uses a rifle and can strike distant moving targets. Near Wano, he fires on Bartolomeo’s fleeing ship and destroys it with a single precisely placed shot after Shanks tests Bartolomeo’s loyalty to Luffy.

As a senior officer of the Red Hair Pirates, Yasopp is implied to possess formidable Haki and combat experience. Supplementary canon associates him particularly with advanced Observation Haki, but the manga has not yet detailed its limits or revealed named techniques.

Yasopp is first seen in the opening chapter as a member of the crew staying in Foosha Village. His stories about Usopp help connect Luffy’s childhood role models to the future Straw Hat sniper.

He accompanies Shanks to Marineford, where the Red Hair Pirates end the Summit War. Yasopp takes position with the crew but does not engage in an extended individual battle.

Later appearances show him celebrating Luffy’s rise and discussing the possibility of meeting Usopp. He remains active during the Red Hair Pirates’ movements around Wano and Elbaf, including their clashes with rival pirate crews.

Usopp is Yasopp’s son and the person most directly shaped by his absence. Usopp admires his father for pursuing life as a pirate and dreams of becoming a brave warrior of the sea, though their eventual reunion also carries unresolved personal weight.

Banchina is Yasopp’s wife and Usopp’s mother. She encourages him to follow his dream when he leaves with Shanks and never expresses regret over the decision during her final illness.

Shanks personally recruits Yasopp after seeking him out in Syrup Village. Their long service together makes Yasopp one of the captain’s most trusted officers.

Ben Beckman and Lucky Roux are Yasopp’s fellow senior officers. Luffy remembers Yasopp from Foosha Village and later recognizes Usopp’s name immediately because of him.
