Wapol

Wapol is selfish, vindictive, and accustomed to unconditional obedience. He issues arbitrary laws, punishes criticism, and interprets the kingdom’s resources as his private property. Suffering among his subjects rarely concerns him unless it threatens his authority.

He is also cowardly when facing danger beyond his control. Wapol flees Drum Island during Blackbeard’s attack without organizing a defense, then returns expecting his title alone to restore him to power.

Setbacks do not produce lasting humility. Even after losing his kingdom, Wapol’s commercial success restores his wealth and political status, allowing his vanity and contempt for former subjects to re-emerge.

Wapol ate the Baku Baku no Mi, a Paramecia-class Devil Fruit that allows him to consume virtually any material. His mouth and body can expand to accommodate objects far larger than he is, including weapons, buildings, and people.

Through Baku Baku Factory, Wapol can rearrange consumed materials and incorporate their properties into himself. He turns weapons into parts of his body, creates mechanical forms, and combines Chess and Kuromarimo into the fused fighter Chessmarimo. He can even consume portions of his own body to alter his physique.

The fruit also lets him manufacture new substances by combining materials. After his defeat, this ability produces Wapometal, a valuable shape-memory alloy that makes him wealthy, supports the creation of advanced technology such as General Franky, and enables him to establish the Evil Black Drum Kingdom.

As king, Wapol removes all but twenty doctors from public service and forces the remaining physicians to serve him. The policy makes medical treatment dependent on royal permission and drives independent doctors such as Hiriluk and Kureha into isolation.

After fleeing from Blackbeard’s attack, Wapol encounters the Straw Hats at sea and attempts to eat their ship. He later returns to Drum Island with Chess and Kuromarimo, intending to reclaim his castle and expel Kureha.

Monkey D. Luffy defeats Wapol and sends him flying from the island. Wapol subsequently becomes a wealthy industrialist, marries Kinderella, and is installed as king of the Evil Black Drum Kingdom. At the Levely, he witnesses the events surrounding Nefertari Cobra’s death and escapes Mary Geoise with Nefertari Vivi before seeking protection from Morgans.

Chess and Kuromarimo are Wapol’s most loyal ministers and accompany him into piracy. Wapol treats Chess and Kuromarimo as both subordinates and raw material for his Devil Fruit.

Dalton begins as Wapol’s officer but rebels after recognizing the king’s cruelty. Wapol continues to regard Dalton as a servant even after both become national rulers.

Hiriluk opposes Wapol’s control over medicine and condemns his rule. Kureha rejects Wapol’s authority and occupies Drum Castle after his flight.

Tony Tony Chopper fights to protect Hiriluk’s flag from Wapol. Monkey D. Luffy defeats Wapol after rejecting his claim that royal ownership gives him the right to destroy it.

Blackbeard’s attack causes Wapol to abandon Drum Kingdom. Kinderella later marries Wapol after his commercial rise.

Nefertari Vivi has opposed Wapol’s selfish behavior since childhood. [Later events force Wapol to flee alongside her after witnessing the death of Nefertari Cobra, and Morgans shelters both fugitives.](#spoiler)
