Dalton

Dalton is honorable, compassionate, and troubled by his past obedience. He once followed Wapol’s commands as a royal officer, but repeated exposure to the king’s contempt for ordinary people gradually overcomes his institutional loyalty.

He admires courage expressed through self-sacrifice rather than rank. Hiriluk’s final stand forces Dalton to confront his own complicity, and he openly denounces Wapol despite knowing that the decision will lead to imprisonment.

Dalton remains humble after becoming the country’s leader. He does not seek royal privilege and initially doubts whether he deserves authority, but the population’s confidence persuades him to accept responsibility for rebuilding the nation.

Dalton ate the Ushi Ushi no Mi, Model: Bison, a Zoan-class Devil Fruit. It allows him to transform into a full bison and a powerful human-bison hybrid, increasing his strength, speed, durability, and charging force.

He carries a large shovel-like sword and is an experienced combatant from his years in the royal guard. In hybrid form, he can rapidly cross snow-covered ground and confront multiple armed opponents.

Dalton’s concern for civilians can be exploited. Chess attacks nearby villagers to force him into the path of arrows, preventing Dalton from defending himself effectively. He nevertheless survives severe wounds and being buried by an avalanche.

Dalton accompanies Wapol to an international gathering where a young Nefertari Vivi prevents a diplomatic incident through restraint. Her conduct leaves Dalton deeply impressed and highlights Wapol’s immaturity.

Back on Drum Island, Dalton witnesses Wapol’s Doctor Hunt and the persecution of Hiriluk. Hiriluk’s death prompts him to rebel openly, after which Wapol imprisons him. When the Blackbeard Pirates later attack, Wapol abandons the country, and Dalton helps its residents maintain order.

Dalton assists the Straw Hats when Nami requires urgent treatment from Kureha. He confronts the returning Wapol but is wounded by Chess and buried in an avalanche. After Luffy defeats Wapol, the population chooses Dalton to lead the newly named Sakura Kingdom. Dalton later attends the Levely as its king and confronts Wapol there as an equal sovereign.

Wapol is Dalton’s former king and principal political enemy. Dalton once obeyed Wapol but ultimately rejects his cruelty and prevents him from reclaiming Drum Island.

Hiriluk’s courage transforms Dalton’s understanding of duty. Dalton honors Hiriluk’s final request by protecting Tony Tony Chopper from the kingdom’s soldiers.

Kureha becomes a trusted figure in the Sakura Kingdom and supports its people as a doctor. Dalton respects Kureha’s medical ability despite her abrasive manner.

Chess and Kuromarimo were Dalton’s fellow officers under Wapol. Unlike Dalton, Chess and Kuromarimo remain loyal to the king and treat his defense of civilians as treason.

Nefertari Vivi’s diplomatic maturity impresses Dalton when she is still a child. Monkey D. Luffy later liberates Drum Island from Wapol, while Nami’s illness brings the Straw Hats into Dalton’s care.
