Personality
Personality
Void is solemn, detached and ritualistic. He rarely displays ordinary emotion, approaching horrific sacrifices with the composure of someone carrying out a cosmic procedure rather than committing an atrocity.
His speech reflects the God Hand's view of causality. Individual suffering is insignificant beside the larger currents that have brought a chosen person to the moment of sacrifice.
Void also appears to hold a position of seniority within the God Hand. He frequently speaks first during ceremonies and personally applies the Brand to those offered as sacrifices.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Void is an immensely powerful astral entity. Like the other God Hand, his existence lies deep within the astral world, placing him beyond the reach of conventional physical attacks under ordinary circumstances.
He can place the Brand of Sacrifice upon those offered during a behelit ceremony. The mark designates victims as offerings to demonic entities and draws malignant astral beings toward survivors.
Void also manipulates space. When the Skull Knight attacks him during the Eclipse, Void creates distortions that redirect the knight's sword strike back toward its attacker.
Story Role
Story Role
Void appears prominently during the Eclipse, where he explains the sacrificial choice presented to Griffith. He frames the moment as the culmination of Griffith's desires, losses and path through causality.
After Griffith accepts the sacrifice, Void brands the members of the Band of the Hawk, marking them as offerings for the Apostles and enabling Griffith's transformation into Femto.
Later glimpses into the distant past show a previous configuration of the God Hand in which Void is present alongside four different members. The imagery links him to the ancient catastrophe associated with the Skull Knight's memories, though Void's original human identity and complete history remain unconfirmed.
Relationships
Relationships
Slan, Ubik, Conrad and Femto are Void's fellow members of the God Hand in the present era.
Griffith accepts the God Hand's offer during the Eclipse and becomes Femto, with Void administering the sacrificial ritual.
Skull Knight is an ancient enemy whose history appears deeply connected to Void. Memories associated with the Berserker Armor suggest their conflict reaches back centuries, though its exact origin remains unrevealed.
Guts and Casca receive Brands of Sacrifice during the ceremony administered by Void.
