Tsugumi Oda

Oda is practical, resilient and direct. The outlet community has forced her into an abusive social structure, but she retains enough independence to recognize an opportunity to escape when Hideo and Hiromi arrive.

Her nursing background encourages a clinical interest in Hiromi. She recognizes that simply killing anyone who displays signs of infection may destroy the only chance survivors have to understand why some cases behave differently.

Oda can also be emotionally blunt. She is willing to discuss uncomfortable realities about survival, bodies and relationships without the evasiveness that characterizes Hideo.

Oda has no supernatural abilities and is not primarily a fighter. Her most important skill is her professional nursing experience.

She can assess injuries, recognize symptoms and provide basic medical care in circumstances where hospitals and emergency services have disappeared. That knowledge becomes especially valuable because Hiromi's anomalous condition requires observation rather than ordinary first aid.

Oda is also an effective survivor. She can drive, scavenge and make practical decisions under pressure, allowing the group to function without relying entirely on Hideo's shotgun.

Oda meets Hideo and Hiromi at the outlet mall, where a survivor community has formed above the ZQN-filled ground level. She takes particular interest in Hiromi after recognizing that the girl's infection does not follow the expected pattern.

When the outlet community collapses, Oda escapes with Hideo and Hiromi. She reveals her real name after having previously used Yabu and becomes the third member of their travelling group.

Oda later discovers that she is pregnant from sexual abuse suffered at the outlet community. After being bitten by an infected infant and realizing what will follow, she asks Hiromi to kill her before the infection takes over.

Hideo Suzuki becomes Oda's travelling companion after they escape the outlet mall. Tsugumi Oda and Hideo Suzuki eventually have sex, complicating the emotional balance within the group.

Hiromi Hayakari is both someone Oda wants to protect and an extraordinary medical case. Oda believes Hiromi Hayakari's partial infection may contain clues to understanding the ZQN. Hiromi Hayakari later becomes jealous of Oda's intimacy with Hideo Suzuki.

Iura is one of the men controlling the outlet-mall community in which Oda is trapped before joining Hideo's group.

Sango is the outward leader of the same survivor community.
