Toshirou Odagiri

Odagiri is stern, disciplined, intimidating, and intensely committed to police duty. He expects professionalism from his subordinates and believes the police exist to reveal the truth regardless of whom an investigation implicates.

His principles extend to his son. When evidence makes Toshiya a possible suspect, Odagiri refuses to use his authority to protect him and instead permits the investigation to proceed.

Despite his severity, he is not unreasonable. He recognizes competent investigative work and takes responsibility for coordinating police resources when circumstances become dangerous.

Odagiri is an experienced senior police commander with extensive knowledge of criminal investigation, police procedure, and large-scale operational management. His rank gives him authority over major investigations and the ability to impose restrictions on sensitive information.

He is also proficient in iaijutsu, the Japanese art centered on rapidly drawing and cutting with a sword. His movements remain sharp despite his age.

Odagiri's investigative judgment is strong enough for him to contribute meaningfully to cases rather than functioning solely as an administrator.

Odagiri assumes an important command role after police officers Narasawa and Shiba are murdered and Satou is critically wounded. The police initially conceal details of the investigation because evidence suggests the culprit could be connected to law enforcement.

His son Toshiya Odagiri becomes a suspect because of his connection to the earlier Jinno case. Odagiri refuses to obstruct the investigation despite the personal consequences.

Toshiya is ultimately cleared of the police murders, while psychiatrist Kyosuke Kazato is exposed as the killer. Odagiri's insistence on pursuing the truth regardless of his son's involvement proves consistent with his conduct throughout the case.

Toshiya Odagiri is Odagiri's only son. Odagiri has a strained relationship with Toshiya Odagiri and refuses to shield him when evidence makes him a suspect.

Kogorou Mouri previously served under Odagiri during his career with the Metropolitan Police Department.

Juzo Megure serves within the police organization commanded by Odagiri and reports developments in major cases to him.

Miwako Satou is one of the officers whose shooting prompts Odagiri to take direct command of the investigation.
