Personality
Personality
Theresia is withdrawn and emotionally isolated when first introduced. Years of confinement and fear have made her cautious, but she quickly shows compassion toward Puck and refuses to treat him as an object.
She longs for freedom while simultaneously fearing the world outside her room. Puck's independence fascinates her and gives her the courage to leave the environment in which her father has kept her.
Theresia also loves her father despite being frightened by him. That complicated attachment becomes devastating when she is forced to confront truths about her family that had been hidden from her.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Theresia is an ordinary human child with no supernatural abilities or combat training.
As a nobleman's daughter, she has lived a materially privileged but extremely restricted life. Her isolation leaves her poorly equipped to survive independently when the protections around her collapse.
Her most significant strength is psychological endurance. Even after witnessing horrifying supernatural events and losing the foundations of her previous life, she ultimately finds enough anger and determination to continue living.
Story Role
Story Role
Theresia is introduced after Puck is taken into the Count's castle and presented to her. Instead of harming him, she confides in him about her father's transformation following her mother's supposed murder by heretics.
Inspired by Puck, Theresia leaves her room and discovers the battle between Guts and the Count. The encounter exposes her directly to the supernatural reality her father had concealed.
Theresia learns that the Count himself killed her mother after discovering her participating in a pagan orgy, then sacrificed her to become an Apostle. When the Count's behelit activates again, the God Hand offers to restore him if he sacrifices Theresia. He cannot bring himself to do so and is dragged into the Abyss.
Overwhelmed, Theresia attempts to fall to her death, but Guts forces her to cling to life. She responds by swearing that she will one day kill him, and Guts tells her he will be waiting.
Relationships
Relationships
The Count is Theresia's father. Despite his monstrous behavior toward others, he genuinely loves his daughter, and his refusal to sacrifice her ultimately costs him the chance to restore his life.
Puck befriends Theresia during his captivity and encourages her to leave the room in which she has been confined.
Guts destroys Theresia's understanding of her family by exposing the Count's nature. After her father's loss, she directs her grief and hatred toward Guts and vows revenge.
Slan, Void, Ubik and Conrad appear during the sacrificial ceremony involving Theresia and her father.
