Tarou Izuyama

Izuyama is greedy, ruthless, and determined to obtain the pirate treasure. He is willing to continue searching despite the dangers surrounding the expedition and shows little concern for people who interfere with his objective.

His partnership with Matsumoto is pragmatic. Both men are experienced treasure seekers, but their methods demonstrate that financial gain takes precedence over the safety of outsiders.

Izuyama has no supernatural abilities. He is an experienced diver and treasure hunter capable of operating in difficult underwater environments.

He is also armed and prepared to use violence. His combination of diving experience, physical capability, and weapon use makes him substantially more dangerous than the ordinary tourists exploring Koumi Island.

Izuyama arrives on Koumi Island as one of three professional treasure hunters pursuing the legend of Anne Bonny and Mary Read. Their activities become part of Conan's investigation after Tayama suffers a suspicious shark attack.

After Tayama is killed, Izuyama and Matsumoto continue the treasure hunt. They take Ran and Sonoko hostage and force the girls to accompany them through the underwater ruins, even using Sonoko's blood to distract sharks.

The pair eventually reaches the hidden cavern containing the wreck of the Whydah Gally but finds no conventional treasure. When they attempt to kill their hostages, Conan intervenes and incapacitates them.

Mitsushi Matsumoto is Izuyama's fellow treasure hunter and partner during the expedition beneath Koumi Island.

Tomoyoshi Tayama is the third member of their treasure-hunting group. [After Tomoyoshi Tayama is killed in the shark attack, Izuyama and Matsumoto continue without him.](#spoiler)

Ran Mouri and Sonoko Suzuki are taken hostage by Izuyama and Matsumoto and forced to help them reach the hidden pirate ship.

Conan Edogawa pursues Izuyama and Matsumoto into the underwater ruins. He prevents them from killing Ran and Sonoko and incapacitates the two treasure hunters.

Jouji Iwanaga secretly exploits the professional treasure hunters' search in order to reach the treasure himself.
