Mitsushi Matsumoto

Matsumoto is greedy, ruthless, and willing to endanger other people for the possibility of obtaining valuable treasure. His profession has made him comfortable with dangerous environments, but his conduct on Koumi Island goes well beyond ordinary risk-taking.

He works pragmatically with Izuyama after Tayama's loss and continues pursuing the treasure despite mounting evidence that the search is dangerous. Valuable discoveries remain his priority.

Matsumoto has no supernatural abilities. He is an experienced treasure hunter with diving skills and enough physical strength to operate in hazardous underwater ruins.

He can use diving equipment, navigate difficult submerged environments, and participate in armed confrontations. His experience makes him considerably more dangerous than an ordinary tourist.

Matsumoto arrives on Koumi Island as one of three professional treasure hunters. Conan quickly identifies the group by their equipment and behavior, recognizing that they are pursuing the island's legendary pirate treasure.

After Tayama is killed in the shark attack, Matsumoto and Izuyama continue searching. They eventually take Ran and Sonoko hostage and use them during their attempt to reach the hidden pirate ship, including exploiting the girls to deal with hazards along the route.

The supposed treasure proves far different from what the hunters expect, and Conan intervenes before they can harm Ran and Sonoko further. Jouji Iwanaga is then exposed as another treasure seeker who had been following and manipulating the professional hunters for his own benefit.

Tomoyoshi Tayama is one of Matsumoto's fellow treasure hunters. Tayama's death during the shark attack leaves Matsumoto and Izuyama to continue the expedition without him.

Taro Izuyama is Matsumoto's surviving partner during the later stages of the treasure hunt.

Ran Mouri and Sonoko Suzuki are taken hostage by Matsumoto and Izuyama and forced to accompany them toward the hidden pirate site.

Conan Edogawa pursues the treasure hunters and ultimately interferes with their plan.

Jouji Iwanaga secretly uses Matsumoto and the other treasure hunters to help locate the treasure before following them to the hidden site.
