Personality
Personality
Suzume is cheerful, affectionate and highly impressionable. She looks up to Ayame and frequently follows her older sister's example, sometimes repeating her words and joining whatever game or activity Ayame begins.
She quickly becomes comfortable around Kenshin and enjoys playing with him. Her dialogue and behavior emphasize her young age, with simple reactions to the more complicated problems affecting the adults around her.
Like Ayame, Suzume can recognize when someone she cares about is unhappy. Her attempts to cheer them up are simple but sincere.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Suzume has no combat training or supernatural powers. She is an ordinary young child and remains outside the battles fought by Kenshin and his companions.
She occasionally helps with basic chores around the Kamiya dojo alongside Ayame, although her age naturally limits what she can do.
Story Role
Story Role
Suzume appears alongside Ayame and Gensai from the beginning of the 1996 anime. She meets Kenshin after he begins staying at the Kamiya dojo and quickly becomes attached to him.
The sisters participate in many anime-original domestic sequences, including meals, chores and outings. Their presence helps portray the dojo as a household rather than simply a martial-arts school.
Their presence can even influence the adults around them. When Sanosuke initially arrives at the dojo seeking a fight with Kenshin, the appearance of the two children contributes to delaying the confrontation.
During the Kyoto storyline, Suzume and Ayame are devastated by Kenshin's sudden departure from Tokyo. Gensai attempts to comfort them while the other members of the dojo struggle with the same loss.
Relationships
Relationships

Ayame Gensai is Suzume's older sister and role model. The two are almost always seen together.
Kenshin Himura is an affectionate older-brother figure whom Suzume enjoys playing with and calls "Ken-nii" in Japanese.
Kaoru Kamiya allows Suzume and Ayame to spend considerable time at the dojo and treats them as part of its extended household.
Sanosuke Sagara is a familiar member of Kenshin's circle whom Suzume encounters regularly.
Megumi Takani works as an assistant at Gensai's clinic and becomes part of the same extended social group.
