Suzaku

Suzaku is composed, observant and extremely confident in his ability to reproduce other people's techniques. He approaches combat as a process of watching, understanding and then reflecting an opponent's own skill back at them.

His pride comes from imitation rather than originality. Successfully reproducing an opponent's signature movements convinces him that he has effectively stolen the advantage that made the opponent dangerous.

That confidence also creates his central weakness. Suzaku assumes that reproducing the visible structure of a technique means he has mastered everything that makes it effective, leaving him vulnerable to deliberate variations created by a more experienced fighter.

Suzaku possesses exceptional observational ability and physical coordination. After seeing a martial technique, he can reproduce its movements with remarkable accuracy.

He fights with paired swords, making him particularly well suited to copying Aoshi's two-kodachi techniques. His speed and precision allow him to imitate complicated attacks rather than merely reproducing simple strikes.

Aoshi counters this talent by modifying his own techniques. Because Suzaku copies what he sees, Aoshi can intentionally show him movements whose weaknesses he already understands, turning Suzaku's greatest ability into a predictable pattern.

Suzaku accompanies Heishin and the other Sū-shin to Enishi's island during the climax of the Jinchū conflict. He serves as one of the four principal bodyguards positioned between Heishin and Kenshin's allies.

When the rescue group breaks through, Suzaku is paired against Aoshi. He quickly demonstrates his copying ability by reproducing techniques from Aoshi's Oniwabanshū fighting style.

Aoshi realizes that imitation is not the same as true mastery and begins changing his techniques specifically to exploit Suzaku's copies. Suzaku continues reproducing what he sees but repeatedly inherits the weaknesses Aoshi has deliberately inserted, allowing Aoshi to defeat him.

Woo Heishin is Suzaku's employer and the person whom he is assigned to protect.

Seiryuu, Byakko and Genbu are Suzaku's fellow Sū-shin.

Aoshi Shinomori is Suzaku's opponent during the island battle. Aoshi defeats Suzaku by exploiting the fundamental limitation of his copying ability, deliberately modifying techniques so that their imitations can be countered.

Enishi Yukishiro is the nominal leader of the organization in which Heishin operates, though Suzaku answers directly to Heishin.
