Seiryuu

Seiryuu is calm, calculating and confident in his analytical ability. He does not rush blindly into combat; instead, he observes repeated attacks until he believes he has identified the mechanics and weaknesses behind them.

That method gives him considerable confidence against fighters who depend heavily on a signature technique. Once he believes he has solved an attack, Seiryuu assumes that repetition will inevitably favor him.

His weakness is intellectual arrogance. He treats combat almost entirely as a technical problem and underestimates an opponent capable of modifying a familiar technique rather than mechanically repeating it.

Seiryuu is an accomplished Chinese martial artist who fights with a guandao. The long polearm provides substantial reach and allows him to intercept attacks while remaining outside conventional sword distance.

His principal talent is combat analysis. By observing an attack several times, he studies its trajectory, timing and vulnerabilities, then adapts his defense accordingly.

This makes his duel with Saitou particularly significant. Seiryuu analyzes the Gatotsu and develops counters for the forms he observes, but Saitou demonstrates that a technique perfected through actual combat cannot be reduced to a fixed sequence. He alters his attack and overwhelms Seiryuu's countermeasure.

Seiryuu travels with Heishin and the other Sū-shin when the Shanghai organization's internal dispute with Enishi reaches its climax. He functions as one of the four fighters protecting Heishin from opponents capable of breaking through ordinary guards.

When Kenshin's rescue group reaches the island, each Sū-shin member engages a different fighter. Seiryuu faces Saitou, whose Gatotsu gives him precisely the kind of signature technique Seiryuu believes he can decipher.

Seiryuu initially succeeds in reading variations of the Gatotsu, reinforcing his confidence that Saitou's swordsmanship can be solved through analysis. Saitou ultimately exploits that certainty and defeats him by adapting the Gatotsu beyond the rigid pattern Seiryuu expects.

Woo Heishin is Seiryuu's employer and the man whom the Sū-shin protect.

Byakko, Suzaku and Genbu are Seiryuu's fellow Sū-shin and operate alongside him as Heishin's elite bodyguards.

Hajime Saitou becomes Seiryuu's opponent on Enishi's island. Their battle pits Seiryuu's analytical approach against Saitou's experience and adaptability.

Enishi Yukishiro is the leader of the organization with which Heishin is associated, though Seiryuu's direct allegiance remains with Heishin.
