Enishi Yukishiro

Enishi is intelligent, obsessive and emotionally unstable whenever his past is involved. In business he can operate with considerable calculation, building wealth and influence in Shanghai and organizing a sophisticated campaign against Kenshin. His composure changes dramatically when Tomoe is involved.

He refuses to regard his revenge as selfish. In his mind, he acts as an agent of judgment on behalf of someone who can no longer punish Kenshin herself. This belief becomes so deeply embedded that contradictory evidence struggles to penetrate it.

Enishi nevertheless retains emotional limits that separate him from indiscriminate killers. His psychological fixation determines whom he can harm without hesitation and becomes important when his elaborate revenge reaches its final stages.

Enishi is an exceptional swordsman specializing in Watōjutsu, a style derived from Japanese swordsmanship but developed within mainland China. It combines powerful sword strikes with acrobatic movement and unusual attacks designed to counter conventional Japanese techniques.

His physical conditioning is extraordinary. Enishi possesses tremendous leg strength, speed and reflexes, enabling him to attack from angles that challenge even Kenshin's Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū.

His most dangerous state is the Nerves of Insanity. By forcing his nervous system into extreme activity, Enishi dramatically heightens his sensory perception, reaction speed and physical responses. The technique also exposes him to overwhelming sensory input and places severe strain on his body.

Enishi's arrival brings Kenshin's unresolved Bakumatsu past into the present. He gathers the Six Comrades, each of whom has a grievance connected to Kenshin, and launches coordinated attacks against people and places associated with him.

Enishi is Tomoe Yukishiro's younger brother. As a child, he followed Tomoe to Kyoto and became involved with the Yaminobu conspiracy against Kenshin. He ultimately witnessed Kenshin accidentally kill Tomoe during the confrontation with the conspirators, an event that traumatized him so severely that his hair turned white.

Rather than killing Kaoru, Enishi abducts her and creates a corpse designed to convince Kenshin that she has been murdered. The deception succeeds temporarily, reducing Kenshin to a nearly unresponsive state before his friends discover evidence that Kaoru survived.

Kenshin ultimately confronts Enishi on his island. Their final battle ends when Kenshin overcomes both Watōjutsu and the Nerves of Insanity, after which Enishi is forced to confront the difference between his imagined version of Tomoe and what she actually wanted.

Tomoe Yukishiro is Enishi's beloved older sister and maternal figure. His inability to accept her death and her love for Kenshin becomes the foundation of his adult life.

Kenshin Himura is Enishi's principal target. Kenshin was Tomoe's husband and accidentally killed her while she intervened during his battle with the Yaminobu.

Kaoru Kamiya becomes central to Enishi's Jinchū because he recognizes her importance to Kenshin. He abducts her and uses a fabricated corpse to convince Kenshin that she has died.

Akira Kiyosato was Tomoe's original fiancé. Enishi initially disliked losing his sister's attention to him but accepted him because he made Tomoe happy.

Gein, Hyogo Kujiranami, Banjin Inui, Mumyoi Yatsume and Heishin are among the people Enishi uses in pursuing his plans.
