Sui Kanaino

Sui is proactive and confrontational. Rather than waiting for the Student Council to reach the next stage of the Wedding Feast, she leaves her assigned location and intercepts them herself.

She is also talkative in combat, openly introducing herself and explaining enough of her fighting method for Youka Naze to begin analyzing it. Even after Naze identifies the basic mechanism, Sui remains confident that understanding the concept is not the same as being able to counter every application.

Sui takes pride in the branch families and resents what she sees as the protected outlook of the Kurokami main family.

Sui's Kanji User Style manipulates the components and interpretations of kanji to produce effects corresponding to newly created meanings. She claims access to all 2,136 jōyō kanji and describes her Style as exceptionally versatile.

Her low, all-fours stance is integral to maximizing the Style. Through linguistic manipulation she can produce effects such as crushing armor with carefully counted stones, tearing exposed skin, extinguishing fire with water, melting ice, altering the orientation of the surrounding area and forcing an opponent's hand upward.

Sui is also a martial artist. Because her hands and feet are occupied maintaining her crawling stance, she carries a kama in her mouth and can incorporate the weapon into close combat.

Sui appears during the Jet Black Wedding Feast as the Kanaino family's actual representative. Unlike the apparent suitors initially encountered aboard Black, she becomes involved directly in the Student Council's journey between stages of the competition.

She intercepts the group's aircraft and fights Naze, turning their confrontation into a contest between Naze's scientific adaptations and Sui's language-based Style.

Naze eventually works out the linguistic rules behind Kanji User and begins constructing counters to Sui's individual effects. The fight demonstrates that Styles operate according to exploitable language rules rather than the mechanisms governing Abnormalities.

Medaka Kurokami is the intended bride for whom Sui enters the Jet Black Wedding Feast.

Youka Naze becomes Sui's principal opponent during the competition. Youka Naze gradually analyzes the rules behind Kanji User while Sui attempts to stay ahead through increasingly difficult applications.

Kariteru Kanaino is Sui's relative and the Shiranui Household member assigned to act as her double during the Wedding Feast deception.

Namanie Nienami is another of the six genuine suitors, although Sui makes disparaging remarks about her during the conflict.
