Sora Inoue

During his human life, Sora is caring, responsible and protective. He shields Orihime from their parents’ violence, leaves home when he is legally able and assumes responsibilities closer to those of a father than an older brother. His final argument with Orihime over a pair of hairpins leaves both siblings with lasting regret because he dies before they can reconcile.

As a lingering soul, Sora initially finds comfort in Orihime’s prayers. Her growing friendships eventually make him feel forgotten, and that possessive loneliness contributes to his Hollowfication. Acidwire retains Sora’s love for his sister, but interprets love as exclusive ownership and responds violently to anyone who has become important to her.

His human personality briefly re-emerges when Orihime explains that she spoke about her happy life so he would not worry. Learning that she wears his hairpins convinces him that she never discarded his memory.

As Acidwire, Sora has greater strength, speed and durability than an ordinary Plus. His elongated body and serpentine tail let him move rapidly through confined spaces, while his large jaws and limbs are suited to restraining or consuming souls.

Acidwire can separate a human soul from its body and possesses acidic digestive fluid capable of dissolving spiritual matter. His armored mask and Hollow body withstand ordinary physical attacks, though they are vulnerable to a Zanpakuto.

Sora has no supernatural combat abilities during his human life. His greatest human accomplishment is practical rather than martial: while still a young adult, he independently provides a home and upbringing for Orihime.

Sora’s history explains Orihime’s independence, her attachment to her flower-shaped hairpins and her habit of masking sadness with optimism. After their argument, he is struck by a car and brought to the Kurosaki Clinic, where he dies before treatment can save him.

As Acidwire, he attacks Tatsuki Arisawa and attempts to reclaim Orihime from the friends he believes replaced him. Ichigo Kurosaki intervenes, but Orihime ultimately reaches the remaining human consciousness within the Hollow.

Realizing that his jealousy has caused him to attack the person he wanted to protect, Sora impales himself on Ichigo’s Zanpakuto. The purification sends his soul onward rather than destroying it, allowing him to say a final farewell to Orihime.

Orihime Inoue — Sora’s younger sister, whom he raises as his own child. His love becomes possessive after death, but her forgiveness restores his clarity.

Ichigo Kurosaki — The Shinigami who confronts Acidwire and helps reveal that Orihime continued treasuring Sora’s gift.

Tatsuki Arisawa — Orihime’s best friend and one of the people Acidwire resents for receiving the attention once directed toward him.

Isshin Kurosaki — The doctor at whose clinic Sora dies after his traffic accident.
