Tatsuki Arisawa

Tatsuki is direct, practical and highly protective. She readily confronts anyone who mistreats Orihime and often acts as a stabilizing presence when her friend becomes distracted or tells one of her improbable stories. Her bluntness can appear severe, but it usually comes from concern rather than hostility.

She places considerable value on trust. As Ichigo and their classmates become involved in increasingly dangerous supernatural events, Tatsuki is frustrated by their evasiveness and wounded by Ichigo’s refusal to explain what is happening. Even without a full understanding of the danger, she insists that long-standing friendship gives her the right to know when he is suffering.

Tatsuki is one of the strongest martial artists in her age group. She specializes in karate and places second in a national-level competition despite competing with an arm injured in a traffic accident. Her speed, coordination and striking ability let her overpower ordinary opponents with little difficulty.

Repeated exposure to Ichigo, Orihime and Hollows awakens her spiritual awareness. Tatsuki progresses from sensing an indistinct supernatural presence to seeing spirits and recognizing changes in spiritual pressure. She survives encounters with Hollows through determination and physical conditioning, but she does not acquire a Zanpakuto, Fullbring or other dedicated combat power.

Tatsuki establishes the connection between Ichigo’s ordinary school life and the supernatural world surrounding him. Early in the story, she protects Orihime during an attack by the Hollow Numb Chandelier, an incident that contributes to Orihime’s awakening as a spiritually empowered human.

As Ichigo’s absences become more frequent, Tatsuki notices that he and several classmates are hiding something. Her confrontation with him before the Hueco Mundo expedition underscores the personal cost of his secrecy: even friends without combat powers are affected by his decisions.

During the battle in the replica of Karakura Town, Tatsuki joins Keigo Asano, Mizuiro Kojima and Chizuru Honsho in attempting to escape from Sosuke Aizen. In the epilogue, she remains connected to her school friends and works as an assistant instructor at a martial-arts dojo.

Orihime Inoue — Tatsuki’s best friend and the person she protects most consistently. Their friendship combines teasing familiarity with deep mutual trust.

Ichigo Kurosaki — Her childhood friend and former karate partner. Tatsuki recognizes his emotional changes quickly and resents being shut out when he faces danger alone.

Keigo Asano — A classmate whose theatrical behavior frequently contrasts with Tatsuki’s disciplined temperament.

Mizuiro Kojima — A calm classmate who accompanies Tatsuki during the crisis in Karakura Town.

Chizuru Honsho — A friend and classmate whose energetic pursuit of Orihime regularly prompts Tatsuki to intervene.

Uryu Ishida — A classmate whose involvement in Ichigo’s supernatural activities contributes to Tatsuki’s suspicion that the group is hiding important information.
