Shizuku

Shizuku is quieter and more restrained than his sister. He shares her devotion to Rukia and participates fully in the abduction, but he is more conscious of Homura’s emotional instability. He tries to calm her when Rukia’s memories begin returning and recognizes how strongly Ichigo affects her.

His gentler manner does not make him harmless. Shizuku attacks anyone who threatens the siblings’ imagined family and repeatedly uses the scythe to manipulate memories. His actions arise from fear of abandonment and loyalty to Homura rather than personal ambition.

Shizuku is the sibling most frequently shown wielding their enormous scythe. He can use it in conventional combat, cutting through spiritual matter with enough force to injure Soul Reapers, but its defining property is its effect on memory.

A strike from the weapon can extract memories from a target. The siblings use its power on Rukia and, through the spiritual systems in the Seireitei, erase awareness of her from most of Soul Society. Shizuku can also teleport or move across great distances with Homura and remain suspended in the air.

Shizuku, Homura and the parasitic entity later fuse with Rukia to form Dark Rukia. The transformation grants destructive energy attacks and heightened physical power, but it destabilizes as Rukia resists from within.

Shizuku and Homura first know Rukia as impoverished children in Rukongai. She feeds and protects them, and they ask her to choose names for them. An attacking entity takes the siblings before she can fulfill that promise and causes her to forget them.

In the film’s present, Shizuku participates in the assault on Mayuri Kurotsuchi and uses the scythe to begin the memory crisis. He then helps carry Rukia back to Rukongai, where the siblings try to persuade her that they are her only family.

When Ichigo restores Rukia’s memories, the siblings merge with her and become Dark Rukia. Ichigo frees Rukia without killing her, but Homura and Shizuku are fatally injured as the entity is destroyed. Rukia finally names the younger child Shizuku before he disappears with his sister.

Homura is Shizuku’s elder sister, partner and closest companion. He supports her desire to recover Rukia Kuchiki while trying to contain her increasingly volatile emotions.

Rukia Kuchiki is Shizuku’s surrogate older sister. Her promise to name him becomes the emotional link between their childhood and his final moments.

Ichigo Kurosaki opposes Shizuku’s attempt to isolate Rukia Kuchiki. Shizuku recognizes that Ichigo’s bond with her is restoring the memories the siblings removed.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi is the siblings’ first major victim in the film and is forced into triggering the Seireitei-wide disaster.
