Personality
Personality
Homura is deeply attached to Rukia, remembering the kindness and security she offered when Homura and her brother were impoverished children in Rukongai. Her longing is sincere, but isolation and supernatural corruption turn it into possessiveness. She wants Rukia to belong exclusively to the siblings and treats Rukia’s other bonds as threats.
She is the more emotional and impulsive sibling. Homura reacts angrily when Rukia begins remembering Ichigo and struggles to maintain control when their plan unravels. Beneath that hostility, she remains frightened of abandonment rather than motivated by conquest or indiscriminate destruction.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Homura and her brother possess powers derived from a parasitic Hollow-like entity that became attached to them. Working together, they can move rapidly between locations, float above the ground and use a large double-handed scythe to cut into spiritual bodies.
The scythe can extract or erase memories. Its first major use removes information about Rukia from Soul Society, leaving most Soul Reapers unable to remember her or Ichigo’s connection to them. It can also remove parts of Rukia’s own memory.
Homura does not have an established ability to grant wishes; imagery suggesting this in promotional material is not confirmed by the film. She and her brother eventually merge with Rukia and the parasitic entity, producing the being commonly called Dark Rukia. This is a forced supernatural fusion, not a conventional Arrancar-style Hollowfication.
Story Role
Story Role
Long before the film, Homura and her brother meet Rukia in Rukongai and begin treating her as family. Rukia promises to give the children names. Before she can do so, an attacking entity engulfs them, and their existence fades from her memory.
The siblings later assault Mayuri Kurotsuchi and trigger a destructive spiritual explosion in the Seireitei. They abduct Rukia, remove her memories and return her to their old home, hoping that she will accept a life with them without interference from her Soul Reaper companions.
Ichigo’s persistence gradually restores Rukia’s memories. Homura and her brother respond by combining themselves, Rukia and the entity into Dark Rukia. Ichigo separates Rukia from the fusion and destroys the creature’s influence. Mortally wounded, the siblings receive the names Homura and Shizuku from Rukia before dying.
Relationships
Relationships
Rukia Kuchiki is Homura’s protector and surrogate older sister. Homura loves her intensely but attempts to erase her other relationships so the three can remain an exclusive family.
Shizuku is Homura’s younger brother and constant companion. They share the same fear of losing Rukia Kuchiki, although Homura is generally the more forceful of the pair.
Ichigo Kurosaki is the greatest obstacle to Homura’s plan because his memories of Rukia Kuchiki survive. Homura regards their bond with jealousy and hostility.
Mayuri Kurotsuchi is attacked at the beginning of the film when the siblings use his laboratory to spread their memory-altering effect.
