Rowan

Rowan is initially presented as an ordinary member of the SEEDS crew with strong romantic feelings for Mary. His affection becomes entangled with jealousy toward Steve, whose behavior toward Mary repeatedly makes her uncomfortable.

As tensions aboard the ship worsen, Rowan becomes increasingly unstable. His inability to manage his jealousy and anger contributes to an already troubled environment surrounding the young Vash and Knives.

Rowan is an ordinary human without supernatural abilities. As an awakened Project SEEDS crew member, he is part of the small team responsible for functioning aboard an advanced interstellar colony vessel while most of its passengers remain in suspended animation.

The anime does not establish a specific technical specialty, exceptional combat ability or signature weapon for him.

Rowan appears in the 1998 anime's "Rem Saverem" flashbacks. He works aboard Project SEEDS alongside Rem Saverem, Joey, Mary and Steve while Vash and Knives are being raised aboard the ship.

His romantic interest in Mary and resentment toward Steve contribute to escalating interpersonal conflict among the crew. Rowan and Mary falsely accuse Steve of sexually assaulting Mary after Steve becomes intoxicated, resulting in Steve being placed in cold sleep. Knives had secretly encouraged the scheme.

Rowan later sabotages Steve's cryogenic unit, killing him. When Rem discovers what happened, Rowan threatens her with a gun; Joey responds by ejecting Rowan through an airlock to protect her.

Mary is Rowan's romantic interest, and he proposes to her. She also participates with him in the false accusation used to have Steve placed in cold sleep.

Steve becomes the focus of Rowan's jealousy because of his behavior toward Mary. Rowan ultimately sabotages Steve's cryogenic unit, causing his death.

Rem Saverem is Rowan's fellow Project SEEDS crew member. Rowan threatens Rem after she discovers what has happened to Steve.

Joey works alongside Rowan. Joey ejects Rowan through an airlock when Rowan threatens Rem with a gun.

Vash the Stampede and Millions Knives live aboard the ship while Rowan serves among its active crew.
